Wayward Terran Frontier came back from the dead
« on: November 13, 2014, 05:01:08 pm »

Hey guys. I am a frequent lurker on these forums, but I posted about my project once and people didn't eviscerate me so I thought I might tell you about our recent rise from the dead.

We had a new artist join the team around the time when I failed the last kickstarter and he made the game look way better. It still has all of the walking inside space ships and the complex simulations in a big persistent world, but now it looks like AAA quality...which is strange since we are a 2 person team.

Summary
Space exploration RPG in a big persistent universe where every ship, asteroid, space station, whatever has a fully mapped interior and module based destruction mechanics. You can be a space pirate that actually boards enemy ships and shoots up the crew. It was at least partially inspired by dwarf fortress at its inception, but graphically it has diverged quite a lot, now it is closer to Terraria in space.

Trailer
We have a new cinematic trailer that is way better than the old one: http://youtu.be/csmYTCqyOlI

Also here are some unreasonably large gifs that you should probably just look at on Gfycat.com

We also have a brand new version of the launcher and the ship designer

you can get it on the downloads page: http://www.wtfrontier.com/?page_id=198

It's free forever and it has all sorts of new art and features. The last time I was here it was buggy as hell and had to be distributed manually, now we have automatic updates and shiny mostly-bug-free action!

I'll put random links here if you want to know more

Awesome, I remember testing this AGES ago. Neat to see you back, and man, this looks WAY better. Hope to see more of this. Going through the forum was a real nostalgia trip...

The good old days. Where tacotacotaco meant being able to make a ship bigger than the default.

Anyways, I'm really excited for this. Good luck on the kickstarter.

Look like someone made an EVE conversion for Escape Velocity--in a good way!

Glad to see that this is once again a thing

To be honest the game never died proper, he simply shifted direction during devlopement wich required a lot of rewriting and he went dark during that time. Also if you look few video he made, the art swithed too and he had to make them all by hand.

Minecraft UI is very simple. There's only so many ways you can implement "simple" without copying something. We also gonna complain that it uses WASD?

While the way the game tracks while it's moving looks a little weird to me, I gotta say, it looks great.

Going to back this. I mean, it's only a few lunches I'll miss. Looks really exciting, a delightfully fresh take on just what a hit actually means.

That shit looks pretty fucking glorious.

That boarding gif looks pretty neato, but that will get worked on, right?  People actually holding guns, equipment, turrets, hacking stuff?  Dedicated anti-boarder and boarding combatants/SPACE MARINES/whatever you call them?

Oh yeah, ship interior stuff is the spot with the most placeholder art currently. We are going to be adding all sorts of sounds and animations for crew and weapons. Not to mention we are planning at least 3 tiers of modules and interior ship art quality levels. The UI is up next on the chopping block.

I feel like all I ever do is put new art into the game these days, and everything you see has been created in about 7 months.

You already had my money before I posted, on that note.
