It was brought to my attention that as Li Halan, I need to create the initial game file. What level of difficulty are we playing at? This will determine the number of trait points available to each House.

You guys want to play with passwords on the email files? Removing the temptation to peak at another's files is possibly a good idea.

I don't care about the difficulty level, but passwords seem like a good idea. Might be a good idea for someone, possibly a non-player, to have a master list of passwords, in case we need a substitute player.

Or e-mail, since y'know, play by e-mail.

The problem is, after you end your turn you're supposed to send the generated save file onwards, but you can just load it up to look at your opponent's turn and see what he's doing.

Probably but why tempt anyone? I nominate Ghazkull as the password holder because he is game master.

As a former EOTFS player I also recommend we post on the thread when we've completed our turns. A simple Turn Sent should be more than enough. It can help save loads of time.

Okay, I'll set up the game file and run my turn this evening. Do we want to use something like Google Docs or Dropbox to make passing the save file around easier? Just a thought.

Oh, and I'll turn Security on so it password protects each players turns.

Upon further review of the mod all I have to say is: Wow.

That's a lot to process. Then again it probably just cut out 20-40 turns of doing nothing but moving transports and building roads.

Anyone know if units like weaponsmiths, courtesans, scientists and other assorted...things...with no seeming attack capability do more than add fluff to the setting?

Don't get me wrong, I like fluff but I just want to know if it's fluff with purpose or just decoration.

Yeah, they have a negative maintenance cost - i.e. they earn money for you. Building lots of income generating units is how you work your economy.

Researching the various economic technologies allows your forts and factories to build mercenary units, which typically only require food and gems to build, but cost quite a lot in upkeep.

See that scares me.  The big problem with EOTFS is that growth is that economic growth was too much of the focus.  Who care's about battles, what matters is who built the most engineers.  What's the answer?  Make that growth unlimited.

i pretty much like that: you can either concentrate on building lots of cities again like in the original, or you can instead build lots of income producing units and then hire mercs. Which you can hire earlier than any units you could produce with technology and resources. On the other hand, buying too much mercs and resources adds tot he warchest of the league.
