From what I can tell, during the abductions the aliens fire down capsules that cocoon people and all, you know, to prevent them from damaging the troops during capture, and the aliens are in the process of gathering them up when X-Com shows.
As for when they get the landed version, thats when the ship has come back to pick them up or something.
This seems mainly correct, but gets into slightly weird territory with the numerous unimportant webbed corpse-things lying about. Presumably those are the civilians they're abducting, but they don't care if you blow them up, you can't rescue them, etc, so either they're less abductions are more harvesting or you're dealing with the duds or something.

Yah, that is an issue. One possibility for them is that its a way of killing and preserving the humans for detection, and that means that the larger ships are for finding live humans, since I think the ships that go after the greenwebbers are slightly smaller.

We all know they're harvesting humans for food and organs, 'abduction' is an effort by X-COM PR team to make it sound less scary and lower panic.

Ideally I'm waiting on volunteers to be Performed and thus move closer to snugglebug.

snugglebug.
I love this new name for the Chryssalid.
"It wants to hug you...to death. But its the thought that matters...more."

Also
Speaking of grenades, how do they work again? Range, accuracy, LoS, etc?
Regarding grenades, remember that it still plays to the original FEF rules.
No diagonals. If a range of 1: then only 1 tile N,E,S,W (cardinally) is affected.
If Range of 2: 2 tiles N,E,S,W and one tile diagonally (as much as if you moved 2 tiles cardinally, so to speak)
And such, for range of effect.

What I've heard from Gigla was that there is a 90% accuracy...thingy. I recall a 90% said somewhere...>.>

Grenades have a 10% chance to land in a nearby tile instead of the tile aimed at.

Ideally I'm waiting on volunteers to be Performed and thus move closer to snugglebug.
Find two people with grenades who can move within range (probably 2) of the bug and get them. That would be my suggestion. Any fewer and it would probably live, since it has more health than a single grenade can dish out.

This is a good idea.

Faust: 7 Str, flashbangs only
Lincoln: 6 Str, 1 grenade
Harrs: 3 Str, no grendes
Arriola: 5 Str, flashbangs only
Magyar: 3 Str, 2 grenades
Callaghan: 4 Sr, flashbangs only
William: 7 Str, 1 grenade
Owen: 3 Str, no grenades

So... problem solved, except William (Objective) is who we're waiting on and we've got two grenades for the entire mission. Unless we want to dash out into the open in an attempted miracle save for the cop (which might be a better idea than it sounds like, due to zombies), we might want to just shoot this one with our guns.

If you're worried about zombies, you could always just shoot the cops. [/sarcasm]

Don't forget to account for added STR from starting stats.

Either way, I'm surprised by the amount of flashbangs we brought. I don't really consider them too terribly useful at this stage of the game, where its better to just dish out damage instead of stack modifiers. Once we start getting levels under our belts and have our stats give things more swing where we want it, they'll start being more important. But that's my view on them at least.

I feel it would be best to simply grenade both the soon-to-be-zombie and the chryss when it attacks it. Two with one stone and all that. And we can then know if there's more than we thought and if we should just flee, since there was heavy foreshadowing that there's more behind that one chryss we saw.
