that's like half a femtohitler

So this is why the Ukrainian army was so inept at retaking the airport...

Protip: When a chief of Staff is doing the work of a brigade general, you know you fucked up BADLY.

EDIT: More about that. I personally like the following fragment:

"However, the command of the enemy at the tactical level shows more flexibility. Faced with changing circumstances and without communication, our troops stop, cease to maneuver, do not conduct their own reconnaissance. Time of the stop is used by the enemy to assess the situation, to conduct further exploration, and to concentrate their forces to strike in a convenient location."

Isn't it a bit odd that a rag-tag band of rebels who are totally not being organized by a neighbouring country is logistically superior to a professional national army?

Ukrainian army is anything but "professional." It's a bunch of untrained conscripts with low morale, augmented by equally untrained gung-ho "volunteer" idiots, armed with decaying Soviet equipment and commanded by incompetent, stumbling morons who have no idea that a Chief of Staff, for example, shouldn't micromanage individual battles. As for the logistics, well, we are talking about a spectacularly corrupt and poor country here, one that didn't even manage to return to its Soviet-era GDP so far, so I invite you to make your own conclusions here.

The rebels, on the other hand, have excellent morale, decent-to-good equipment, logistical support and training (thanks to the Russian "voentorg") and incomparably better commanders, even though they occasionally squabble with each other.

I'm glad to know that despite Ukraine's "weakness," Russia's military still can't make any headway.

The much battered enemy continues his cowardly advance. Ukrainian sources report a rebel attack was repulsed from the town of Avdiivka. No independent confirmation, but it makes sense that they would want to press their advantage. Stay tuned, I suppose.

It hasn't been trying, that's the point. Putin was the one who pushed for the frontline-cementing Minsk agreements, and was extremely reluctant to let the conflict intensify and the rebels to advance ever since then. But now, it seems, he has decided to allow Novorossiya to gain some more land, and what do you know? The AFN are advancing! And we are talking about just the rebels here, the "voentorg" has so far been only giving out supplies.

Cassad says that both Peski and Avdeevka have been the locations of fierce street fighting for the last four or so days. So far both remain contested.

I'd say in deliberate denial.
