P., we are on the Dwarf Fortress forum, for God's sake. We bake kittens, slaughter migrants and farm mermaids, why the hell do you expect us not to joke about some people dying in real life? Besides, I do not see any jokes about anything here, anyway.

You're probably right. It's just that this type of news makes me rather sad.

Doublepost for make bumping thread.

The head of DNR is tired of "pointless negotiations."

What's that sound, Boris?
That's the death cry of nonviolent solutions, Ivan.

Also, the WW2 memoir collecting site "I Remember" has got a shiny new design. The translation is sometimes overly stiff, but is generally passable.

I saw the one for Nikolai Dupak, they still used horses in the army back then even in WWII. But uh, then again, horses traverse muddy terrain better than vehichles I suppose.

Much better, which is why the cavalry divisions were so useful on the Easter Front. They didn't attack as cavalry, of course, rather, the men fought on foot, so it wasn't exactly cavalry in the Napoleonic sense, but rather Dragoons in their original intended usage.

You should read up on that, it's a very interesting topic, actually.

They also have the advantage of not requiring specially prepared and stored fuel for movement, which makes them invaluable in retreating maneuvers and partisan duties.
