Removed some stuff.  I'd appreciate additional prudence in this thread.

Ruble collapses, nobody cares.

I feel like I am getting only half the story here.  The impression I have is that importing retail chains are keeping prices constant in rubles, even though they are making their purchases in Euros.  That would be good news for consumers but it sounds suicidal stupid for the chains, they'd be selling at a massive loss.  What's the other half of this story?

The prices are actually rising rather fast in rubles. The key point of the article is that this doesn't really defer Russians from buying stuff.

Sorry, Sheb, no. I am a bit busy in the Edinburgh biology labs right now, you see.

Where is the money to purchase at the higher prices coming from?  Do Russians get cost of living adjustments more then once a year?

The wages are rising as well, and the unemployment is decreasing, as I've mentioned earlier, although, as it usually is, the prices rise faster than the wages.
And besides, prices for domestic goods, such as the majority of Russian food staples and other household consumables, are almost unaffected by the depreciating Ruble.

Anyway, ladies and gentlemen, I give you: Igor Shpilenok, the legend of Russian wildlife photography!

Less talking, more actual work in wildlife management and conservation organisations.

I can't find any good data on Russian savings rate in English level sources.  Can any Russian speakers get any data on what the savings rate is at several points in time?  Personal savings rate would also be a plus but economy wide would probably be easiest to find.
