Meteors, by definition, don't hit anything.

or you could assume he meant meteorite, rather than being needlessly pedantic.

(meteors are space rocks that burn in atmosphere, meteorites are the ones which manage to land)

A meteorite of a size which can pierce through the entire atmosphere, cause a sky-wide glow, reach Earth and then cause a bright fireball  would create a sound shockwave similiar to Chelyabinsk one. And according to anecdotal evidence, no sound shockwave was observed.

But where would be the fun in that.

Although, it does look like that treaty has been in practice dead for long now, but it was brought up once again for some more media time.

The guy who printed Der Stürmer, a Nazi propaganda magazine that appealed to the most base instincts. I guess it's the source of the German term Hetzblatt, which roughly translates to 'hounding magazine'.

20 years ago the first major battle of Chechen war started. You may say that the war started December 11 but that is not true. November 26 was the day when "Chechen opposition"  started an armored assault of Grozny. That opposition was nothing but Russian forces used in the exactly same way as they used in Ukraine nowadays.

Then, starting from December 1 Russia started aerial bombardment, December 6 Dudaev and Grachev ( Russian minister of defense ) signed a ceasfire agreement that was promptly broken by Russia December 11 when Russian soldiers entered Cechnya with flags and insignias

Official numbers say that Russia lost 5732 personnel in the first Chechen war. I believe it is a bullshit number and real loses are no less than ten thousands. That is the war Russians expected to win in ten days with one airborne regiment.

PS. Damn I was 9 year old back than and I remember how my father discussed that war with his friends. I am old :(
