grown back to its Soviet production levels
Soviet production levels sucked big time. USSR was importing over a billion of 1970s dollars in produce and the shelves would still run empty every so often. At least now Russia grows enough bread to sustain itself, if not apples or beef.

Shows that a "pro-agriculture" leader (Khrushchev) not always knows anything about agriculture. AFAIK it was during his reign that Soviet agriculture tanked, big times.

I think Knit tie linked Wikipedia article about it just a couple pages ago. It's quite interesting to read actually, I too didn't know Khrushchev apparently had a real hard-on for corn.  ;D

But to be completely honest, he is not entirely to blame, he also had a bunch of "advisers" who were also responsible for that mess.

Shame. I'd pay for a video of that. It'd be more awkward then an episode of the Office, UK version.

Not even remotely surprising when the invitation could be easily interpreted as "Hey, 'Bama! Wanna see what happened to the last guys who tried to fuck with Russia?"

Russia frequently looks like Warhammer 40k cosplay of various degrees of win, believe me.

Fairly sure the US has shivs, too, actually, on top of the ice-traversing dogbots and gods know what else. Africa's got what amounts to flying ones (crowd-control drones). Everyone's got their combatdong in the death robot pie these days.

Forget who's currently nearest to combat-ready exosuits, but I'm pretty sure we're within a few years of that, too, if you want those MECs.

Well yeah US has been deploying this cute little things for years now, it seems. I will confess though that the Russian bot above it just damn sexier.

As for MECs, I think we will probably sooner reach WHERE IS SARAH CONNOR point.

Russian's army radio controlled midget tankette slightly reminds me of this video.

So apparently the rallying rubles is due to large state-owned exporters selling massive amounts of dollars, party too pay their end-of-the-year tax bill, partly due to an  executive order. Apparently we're talking of about 1 billion dollars a day.µ

However, since no significant raise of the ruble happened at the end of last year, I guess it's mostly the executive order. State capitalism can be useful sometime.
