New Perspective on Player Status
« on: November 04, 2014, 08:55:24 pm »

Has anyone ever considered that as a player, we ARE the fortress? Literally, as though the fort is a living entity?

We are Armok, the God of Blood. We cause the dwarves to go insane and do all kinds of horrible things.

I know what I've got to do... I've got to go back to the fortress.

(did I do that right? I never saw that awful looking show, just the memes resulting from it)

Somewhere I have a list of things to do if I ever get high again since college. I'm pretty sure playing DF is not on it. Though maybe it should be...

Dwarf fortress in 50 words: You start with seven alcoholic, manic-depressive dwarves. You build a fortress in the wilderness where EVERYTHING tries to kill you, including your own dwarves. Usually, your chief imports are immigrants, beer, and optimism. Your chief exports are misery, limestone violins, forest fires, elf tallow soap, and carved kitten bone.

We are Armok, the God of Blood. We cause the dwarves to go insane and do all kinds of horrible things.

See, the problem there is that that statement is logical. Given the nature of DF, the nature of the player must be equally illogical.

Never got into 'Lost', but the OP rather made me think of this kind of fortress:

Hmmm, no. Sounds ridiculous.

All I could think of was how "Back to the Fortress" sounds kind of like "Back to the Future".

Reading his name would trigger it. Thinking of him would trigger it. No other circumstances would trigger it- it was strictly related to the concept of Bill Clinton entering the conscious mind.
