As for basics, I've heard some basic memes on the subject. There's nobles, who are mostly assholes, and the story's about them. Crusader Kings plus dragons (and other fantasy stuff?), I've been led to believe. Is that correct?

Also, Dragons have actually not played a huge, active part in the story yet. They're sort of looming over the horizon, previously being extinct for a thousand years.

I was thinking of making a young noble of the house, more skilled with intrigue than swords. But perhaps not entirely unskilled. Hence why I became hesitant about it, it would be good to know some House stuff before moving on.

Also, is there a reason we're starting with 0 status?  As far as I can tell (and how I did it the last time I used this system), the normal game has people starting with 2 in that as well.

Edit:  Also also, the game itself is somewhat contradictory on what Status means.  One place will say 6 means head of house while another says maximum status is based on House Influence (and status 6 is that of a High Lord, while 7 is a Lord Paramount).

That's not contradictory. Presumably they're using a major house, say, a high lord's house when they're giving examples of where someone is in a house.

I suppose that's fair, though I believe they had lower influence than that needed to allow Status 6.  Don't really want to look it up again right now.  Still!

I wanted status to cost a bit more to the player who wanted it, that's all. Also, I couldn't see how one of the players could, for example, start with 7 status and not already own the house themselves. It's my intention to play the Lord/Lady of our Noble House, at least until my tragic crossbow murder in the privy.

You can just go ahead and fill in your char how you like, with benefits and drawbacks and such. If you've run the system before, you know more than I do.

You can take as much equipment as you could reasonably have on your person during everyday travel. I won't be ah, "counting coppers"
