It's... legal within the rules, though a bit odd.  Characters with rank six are "one of the best in the world" and rank seven is enough to qualify you as a legend of archery who has reached the limit of human potential.  Demigod is an apt description of a rank 8 character.

I'd advise sticking to rank 5 or 6, for now, and using the extra points to boost your survival and stealth so you can work as a (very talented) scout/ranger/hunter.

Yeah, and I don't want to have to be that predictable as a GM.

How many different ways could I concoct Taricus to somehow lose his crossbow? Taken apart by Flea Bottom orphans? Washed down by the Trident? Sundered by the Mountain? Stolen by a Wildling girl, hair kissed with fire?

This. A 6 rank is only one rank lower, but it makes me feel alot better.

Depends, are you the head of the household or have benefits that grant any? If not, you have none

Cohort and Cadre.  Cohort grants a skilled and extremely loyal ally.  Cadre gives you a squad of veteran bodyguards.

And how do you buy them?

You trade one of your destiny points for a benefit.  You can get up to three benefits in this way at chargen.

Worth noting, though, that if you're an adult or older you also HAVE to take a Flaw for no benefit.  Flaws normally grant you destiny points (though you still can't get more than three benefits at chargen with them).
