I'm surprised that there are no threads (as far as I know) on the venerable Warhammer 40,000. Owned and strictly controlled by Games Workshop, it's a tabletop and video game franchise set in the far future, where life is shit. Here is the summary/synopsis:

"It is the 41st Millennium. For more than a hundred centuries the Emperor of Mankind has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Earth.
He is the master of mankind by the will of the gods and master of a million worlds by the might of his inexhaustible armies. He is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with power from the Dark Age of Technology. He is the Carrion Lord of the vast Imperium of Man for whom a thousand souls are sacrificed every day so that he may never truly die.
Yet even in his deathless state, the Emperor continues his eternal vigilance. Mighty battlefleets cross the daemon-infested miasma of the Warp, the only route between distant stars, their way lit by the Astronomican, the psychic manifestation of the Emperor's will. It has its origins in the 80's, so expect to see plenty of 'strange' art. It has a healthy dose of skulls, fortunately. Also, while the tabletop miniatures are really expensive, the video games are not half bad and they're available for a very reasonable price. Anyone else into this?
