Dwarves can be Assassins, they will secretly kill your nobles.

May be interesting, but who sends them?
Perhaps they can be necromancers in disguise, or sell-swords hailing from a human/elf/goblin civ.

Your own mountainhome may also send them if you reject their offer to become a barony.
Another idea may be to give the assassins religious or factional motivations, though it will be quite a while before such systems are implemented in the game.

Yeah probably should be suggestions.

Also you could just save this for the tavern arc and the tavern patrons could be given a whole host of ulterior motives (theft, assassinations, vampires, picking a fight, un-transformed werewolf, etc.).

Well - firstly, they'd have to be quick enough to do the deed before the player assassinated the nobles first.

Secondly - they sound similar to vampires, except they're probably not targeting your one legendary blacksmith

Mr. McLegendary there arrived at the fort with maxed out skills and ridiculous stats, but is only 20 and definitely not a vampire (had a few more arrive in a similar state, think I ended up with 3 McLegendary dorfs I decreed were all long-lost brothers who escaped from a particularly effective dwarf day care camp... but I initially was certain he was a vampire (til the flashing hungry/thirsty arrows showed up in quarantine) so I made him a baron when given the chance, as apology.

He actually had no item preferences so I thought he was PERFECT, best noble ever, AND he was the initial militia commander? Hell, made him his own champion because why the hell not, right?

Then... "I need a rose gold bed, not for my royal bedroom, no, I need another bed, so I can nap during meetings, and I want it to be made of a material that means it can only realistically be an artifact, because I'm Urist Mc-Armokdamn-Legendary, that's why!"

Hopefully Mr. Assassin is wearing better gear than masterful steel topped off with an artifact steel breastplate and artifact gold war hammer...

Ah, but that's not a mandate (where some useful dwarf gets murdered by the Guard if the quota isn't met), that's just a demand. Those you can safely ignore, unless you're feeling generous, and the only consequence will be a bad thought for the noble.

They don't mandate that things be made of specific materials anymore, thank goodness Toady.
