So, I've been having this issue where my internet connection becomes incredibly shitty at nighttime. I haven't been able to track the exact time it happens, but it's always at night, usually midnight at its worse. This is especially frustrating to me(a WoW player) and my friend(a LoL and Starcraft player) when our ping shoots through the roof. I've had 3k ping at my worst times.
I'm not exactly tech saavy enough to know what to do and my friend, who has a better understanding than me, has basically laid down and accepted it.
I want to know if there's anyway I could figure out and hopefully kill this issue, as it's a huge pain in the ass. Me and the people that live here hardly have torrents downloading/seeding, too. Also, our connection is 100% okay in the morning, even with torrents.

My laptop connects wirelessly to our router and while I typically have some connection issues, it usually isn't to this caliber. My friend has a wired connection to the router(because its in his room) and he even gets this incredible lag, so it's not just me.

There are typically 6 people on the connection. (myself included) Though, even with everyone using it, the connection still seems to be alright. However, the time it dies does coincide with everyone being home. They all got new iphones recently, too. (upgrade from flip-phones) It could be part of the problem, but the connection is alright in the morning if everyone were here, like I said.

6 phones sounds like a huge wireless bottleneck.

Check if using a wire helps with the connection when it is super shitty.

Well, 5 phones, 4 laptops, and a desktop. A wired connection won't help me, unfortunately, because our router is in my friend's room and his room is really cramped.

You could add another wireless router, set it to a different, non-overlapping channel, and split up your usage...

Nada, there's only three people living here that torrent(which includes myself) and none of us are torrenting anything, currently. It'd also be strange to only run these torrents at night. :0
Now that I think about it, sitting here with 1.4k ping, I think that someone is using some sort of streaming service, but I don't think it's Netflix. (Can't be sure, honestly, I've never used netflix and I don't want to peep into other people's rooms.) If that's the case, then I guess I can't do anything about it, as I don't want to be demanding to the people who own the place.

Jesus 1400 ping? run speedtest.net and see what happens at night. Also some ISPs like to clean up their DHCP servers at night and reassign you a IP which can be screwy.

This is pretty much guaranteed to be a shitty router (coupled with high use). Unfortunately, it's not necessarily yours that's the problem... It could just as easily be the ISP's on the other end of your line. Although that said, it's far more likely to be yours.

Basically, ping going high means one of two things:
1: Problems with the line itself (interference, etc) that cause retransmits
2: A router somewhere responds to being overloaded by buffering large amounts of data (instead of dropping packets, which would cause the connection to throttle automatically): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bufferbloat

I'll take another one at night when it gets bad. I don't have much time, at the moment, so I'll have to read about bufferbloat later. Sounds like it could be the issue, though.

Do a tracert  too, to someplace like google.  That can help tell if the slowdown is at your router, the ISP router, or somewhere downstream. 

An easy thing worth trying if you haven't  yet is to put the router on a different channel - 1, 6 or 11, whichever ones you aren't using.  It's *possible* that the channel you're on is unusually crowded.

That's strange, there's no issue there at all.

Can you try a ping/tracert while wow is running? If it's bufferbloat (i.e. shitty router) that's the cause, then your ping will be bad only while your connection is overloaded.

EDIT: "ping -t google.com" will ping google.com endlessly until you close it, useful for tests like this.
