I don't post often, But I've been around since 2009 when I first began playing DF. Nowadays I only delve into some fortress mode insanity a few times a year, but the forums have become my go-to when looking for new games and new people to play with due to the badass community. Over the past couple of years the market for PC gaming has shifted it's focus (and money) over to games that are in the early stages of development. This has allowed a lot of fantastic games from smaller developers to come on the market, but has also encouraged a much larger group of developers to sell an idea of a great game, and then never produce or sometimes completely abandon the game. I don't bother buying anything unless it's completed and I've checked reviews/gameplay etc, but I'm not totally against the alpha/beta/kickstarter trend either. When I come to the forums looking for something to play, I find it tough to sift through all the pre-release discussion threads and find something that's actually released and playable.

Maybe I'm a minority, but I'd love to hear what you guys have to say about it.

I agree but I think the traffic wouldn't justify the need for a child board. I'd prefer a consensual labeling system like a [KS] or [EA] tag in the thread title.

And then, they will be weaponized. Like everything in this game, from kittens to babies, everything is a potential device of murder.
So if baseless speculation is all we have, we might as well treat it like fact.

Not a bad idea. I spend alot of time browsing this forum on my mobile phone when I am out and about, I have this section of the forum bookmarked on my phone for that purpose.

Browsing any website is a nightmare on a mobile phone so having different catergorys of "other games" would be useful from my point of view as I would be able to zone in on whatever I'm interested in on any given day.

Since theres more than just kickstarter, Id suggest a crowdfund tag, [CF] instead of a kickstarter tag. Otherwise, officially seconded.

Yeah a [CF] and a [EA] tag would do wonders.

I am actually starting to feel REALLY advertised to in this place XD

Tagging is a good idea.

I don't think a subforum would be appreciated though, for how little traffic it would get. We made the the PWYB forum when Other Games was swamped with lets plays, and even in its heyday it never moved very fast. There aren't nearly so many crowdfund/early access game threads to justify their own subforum.

Wouldn't 90% of games these days qualify for this board?

A lot of people do add "kickstarter", "indiegogo" and so on in the title of the thread already, I don't think a child board is needed also.

I also want to put them on their own subforum, it seems easier to implement and more authoritative. It isn't enough that some people tag their topics, they all must. A subforum makes it easier to ignore all of them too. As it is, this board has become shill city.

I don't get it, people getting excited about video game ideas and talking to each other about them and about how they're unfolding makes it shill city (because abandoned kickstarter projects are things now)? This board has always been about games in all stages of development. Ignoring threads you're uninterested in is not a massive feat.

This is all silliness.

No subforum is needed, and I don't think particularly harsh reactions like

hold much weight. A stickied post reminding people to tag, maybe?

Ultimately, even is a developer is an escaped lunatic as long as they maintain the thread and reply to questions I don't mind them posting their own game. People here are smart enough that the particularly advert-like game posts are criticized or ignored. I think kickstarter is a generally good force, as long as people pay attention to what they're buying. These forums are a great resource for letting particularly hardcore-minded folk know about upcoming games that might not be so popular with the majority of gamers, and I've certainly appreciated knowing about in-dev games more often than not.

The uninteresting games drop to the bottom of the post list by the nature of their uninteresting-ness, and the slow pace of this subforum suggests splitting it would slow the pace even further.

Sure, ignoring the threads is not too much of a hassle, but why must we be hassled in the first place, when there could be a solution. People are leaving the forum because all this selling is irritating. Throwing the crowdfunding threads in the bin -- ahem, a subforum -- is a good first step to cleaning this place up.

You people talk as if creating a subforum is similar to creating a new server in an mmo. It's not; moving between subforums is trivial. The only ones who will lose traffic are the salesmen, and they should not have been welcome here in the first place.

I really like this idea and I don't think this is just a 'negative' response either. I myself set a certain amount aside each month to crowdfund/donate/support, and I'd like to have this all in one place.

It also obviously starts a lot of Crowdfunding games that are in very early/creative stages clogging up the 'Other Games' board, which I've always felt should be about games that you can actually play, or are in proper development with something to show for it. The 'escaped lunatic developer' syndrome is always going to happen, but as it'd pretty much all be in one place (as everyone does CF these days) then it'd be a much more receptive board for them.

As Fishymuffin says, it's not difficult to pop into the sub-board if you're interested in crowd funding/the latest stuff, but it does help keep Other Games as somewhere to discuss actual games that can be played or are in main development.

Yes, it's clogging up the board so much there's not even one on the first page.

I'd rather not have to browse two forums to read for game news, because some people don't like that which doesn't bother others. Or should we declare that no game which isn't released on Steam shouldn't be posted in this forum?
