No migrants? D:
« on: October 29, 2014, 01:23:07 pm »

I badly need migrants, and for a whole winter, I haven't had a single one.

I think your civ will revive itself if you just soldier on. Try pressing "c" and check your civ's info. Does it have any leaders?

Did you receive the first two migrant waves?

These are hard-coded, afaik you even get them when your civ is dead. I'm not sure if these get freshly generated (no historic person) when they enter your map, like the starting 7

It has many notable figures, possibly the most I have ever seen in a civ. It has 13 notables, which makes the lack of migrants even stranger considering that it is probably flourishing.

I believe this is no longer the case in 0.40.xx.
Edit: I may be have been thinking of the population cap, actually, which now affects the first two waves as expected.

There was a typo in the siegers' campfire code. When the fires went out, so did the game.

I did receive the first 2, however the winter did not bring any migrants. Of course during the winter my metal industry rose, and I badly needed more farmers, miners, and possibly hunters. I also needed more militia candidates. In other words, lots of fresh meat.

Migrants never come in winter, wait for spring and see if you get any then.

Its probably the case that your fort is too far away or too dangerous to get to for some reason. Maybe you are in a cold area and dwarves just cant get to you without dying in the winter.

Could also be that you havent massed enough wealth to get migrants, I havent tested this out myself but Ive been told that you get more as you make more wealth. Certainly seems true.

Retired the fort because of dead/too tiny civ, only to find out that migrants don't come in the winter. -.- Luckily I retired it instead of abandonding, so I can get it back without too much problems. Going to do that now.

Just gotta have patience. I had plenty of starts with a dead civilization but still receive regular migrants.

The next spring did not bring migrants, but the summer did. The autumn just started, and if it's because of the cold on the way to the fortress, then I will be seriously handicapped as for population growth. Which will seriously impair my fort development. :/

Does the game still give you a message if migrants don't come or if the wave is reduced? Keep an eye out for announcements like that or that some immigrants have braved the whatever to get to your fort. It might hint at the problem. I used to routinely murder a lot of immigrants for their clothing a few releases ago, and even with that artificial death trap, some suckers would continue to make their way to the fort. Check your pop cap, and if all else fails, set the child stuff to 100:100 and wait a dozen years lol.

I did know about the message saying that there were no migrants this season. It didn't give any message like that, which is mainly why I find this weird. The migrants probably indeed died on the way to the fort due to the cold, which is pretty crappy given that it happens with two seasons.
