Sappho is a newbie again! So many questions!
« on: October 28, 2014, 08:14:04 am »

Is there a way to change the names of NPCs in the DF world, with DFHack or something like that? I'm working on a story for adventure mode and I need to have a couple of followers with specific names.

Thanks guys!

Yes - in DFHack, "rename unit [whatever]" while you've got a unit selected.

It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Perfect! Thanks!

Also, sorry for the dumb questions, I've been out of the DF loop for too long: does DFHack work with the current version of DF, or should I use an older version?

Thanks again!

Unless explicitly noted otherwise, a given DFHack release will only work with the same version of Dwarf Fortress, so DFHack 0.40.13 will not work with Dwarf Fortress 0.40.14 - you'll have to wait until a new version of DFHack is released.

Okay, last one: I looked through the DFHack commands and couldn't find an option for this. Is there any way to cheat an NPC into being my companion in adventure mode? Also, is there a way to change skills/attributes to higher levels? I seem to recall there being a way years ago, but that was many versions past and I have no idea how this would be done anymore.

Thanks a lot!

EDIT: WOAH, wait, is the window no longer resizable? Because I can't resize it. How do I make it resizable? Please help!

EDIT2: Okay, I tried the SDL version and now I can resize it. Why doesn't the legacy version allow that? Actually, I never really understood the difference between the two. And now, all this time away from the game and I'm a newb all over again...

The Legacy version also does not work with DFHack, so you'll be wanting the SDL version anyways.

Another DFHack question: some of the commands aren't working. Specifically, advtools and adv-bodyswap give me the error that they are not recognized commands. They're still in the readme for the latest version, which I'm currently using. Can anyone help me with this?
