Questions about animal husbandry
« on: October 26, 2014, 10:34:56 pm »

So I decided to make a fort with a strong meat industry for a change (instead of relying on hunters and eating plump helmets) and I had a few questions

1) What do eggs and cheese count as on the status screen?
2) Is there a way to get my dwarves to shear/milk animals without micromanaging it?
3) Is there any way to get honey bees if you don't have honey bee hives on the map?

Also one about farming, is there any way to stop my dwarves from cooking the plants I want them to brew, or brewing the plants I want them to cook?

1) Prepared food
2) No
3) No, but DFHack might be able to.

Open the kitchen screen (z and scroll across) and you can toggle Cooking and Brewing for foods individually.

Hard science is like a sword, and soft science is like fear. You can use both to equally powerful results, but even if your opponent disbelieve your stabs, they will still die.

1) i am quite sure they have their category and prepared food is prepared food (but it is in the food category somewhere)
2) i think work flow might do that ...

1) "Other food" or something to that effect.
2) DFHack solves everything.

You may find dfhack's autobutcher plugin useful as well: https://github.com/DFHack/dfhack#autobutcher

2) yes...it should be possible using the Workflow Plugin.

You can definitely set a Limits on Milk and Cheese, so it should definitely be possible.

Don't know how to use the Workflow plugin?  Go Learn.
