92.3: Sadly, the clockwork war machines protected the scythers inside from the EVIL FIRE. They soon go after the monks to try to get the other flames down, while the others are looking for a way to fly over it.

92.4: And though the machines did indeed protect their pilots from the divine flame, it did not protect them from the Buried One's Command. As the machines marched ever forward into the Monastery, their pilots found them more and more unresponsive. As they started locating the Monks, the pilots found that they could no longer control their machines. In fact, they could not even move. Their machines, as would be learned in time, had been animated and given wills of their own. Though crafted by the Scyther, these automatons paid no heed to their former masters and presented themselves to the Monks as guards. The pilots were unfortunately, never recovered.

92.5: However, in a last act to prevent the tech from being stolen, the pilots cut off each of their left scythe arms and throw it in the emergency mechanism jammer. Since these things are clockwork, they completely disable the rouge machines without any logical possible sentience gaining. Because of this circumstances, the scythers bring strange robed ones of themselves that are carving strange patterns (runes) into the machines of clockwork that did not go into the flame sheild

94.5: The meteoric activity that had damaged the rune years ago was just a begining, a warning as it were.  Thousands upon thousands began to rain down, many striking deep into the earthaand destroying bunkers created to survive.  When it slowed, the fortress had been forced into the earth, its ability to fly robbed by meteors during the catastrophe though it still partially held its invisibility, and populations had only 10% their prior numbers.
