[Flying Dice]

Sharos rubs his chin, apparently deep in thought.

"Okay, so it's like this. I managed to catch that masked dastard a little bit, had to let him go at the end. So he was only mostly dead at the bottom of the cliff instead of all the way dead. I talked with him a bit, and it turns out he didn't have the real rod any more, just a decent fake. On the plus side, I made him talk, and he dropped the name of a fellow in Riverwatch. He slipped the real thing to another courier somewhere on the road who'll be taking it along to him for safekeeping," Sharos lets loose a sly grin, "Now, here's the really great part. I got a code-phrase off of Eastley, and the contact holding the rod doesn't know what the person intended to retrieve it looks like. If we hurry back I can use that password and some bits of knowledge I pried loose from Eastley to pose as a member of their cabal... thing, get the real rod, and we'll be off with no one the wiser."

[Kassire]

"That seems like all good information, so give us the bad or..."

[Flying Dice]

"Oh," Sharos says, looking slightly bemused, "I'd thought that it was obvious. Eastley didn't have the real rod, and he died too quickly for me to really interrogate him properly. And that after that march we're going to be going back practically to where we started."

[Kassire]

"It's not really a big setback, just another trip. Also, do you have the fake rod with you?"

[Flying Dice]

"It wasn't worth retrieving; Eastley landed on it and the bit on the top snapped off. The whole thing was wood underneath, too, painted with some sort of enamel, and a lot of it was chipped. Honestly I'm surprised that he lived through landing on that boulder at all, even if I slowed him for a second or two."

[Kassire]

"Shame. So shall we hunt for this contact?"

[Flying Dice]

Sharos shrugs, smiling wryly, "What else is there to do, Venena?"

On the road agaaaain, back to Riverwatch. Unless anyone has objections.

[Silthuri]

Devon seems quite disturbed when Sharos returns empty-handed. "I would like to see this broken staff for myself. Why would he be so willing to protect a fake with his life and give up the location to the real staff in his dying breaths? This... doesn't make sense. I must ask you to retrieve the broken staff."

[lawastooshort]

"And perhaps the poor human would appreciate a decent burial, even in death... So to to speak. We have the time to make our way down there."

[Flying Dice]

"Oh. Uh, there may be a tiny bit of a problem with that," Sharos winces, "Seeing as how he managed to trick us so easily and was talking about a big group of friends waiting for him, I was rather anxious to make sure that his corpse wasn't found...

...Now, I'm not saying that I weighed down what was left of him with stones and sank it in a little stream flowing down into the earth, but I'm not saying that I didn't, either."

Sharos shrugs, "That aside, if you want to go search, you're welcome. But that blasted cliff is a couple hundred feet high and I didn't see any conveniently placed paths down. I'd offer to carry you down, but... yeesh. I think I'd rather avoid dropped anyone else to their doom today. I mean, I might manage to fly with shorty there," Sharos says, pointing at Jebeddi, "but I wouldn't risk it if our positions were exchanged.".

[lawastooshort]

"We could spend a few hours looking for a way around and down, I believe. Even for a thief it would be a decent thing to do. Me and Dimble could always catch you up if you want to go ahead and get on with the next meeting?"

[Flying Dice]

"Yes, I'd really rather not end up losing out on this chance to get the rod back because their courier got to the hand-off before I did. I'll wait for you in Riverwatch if you don't catch me up," Sharos replies.

Set course for Riverwatch.

[Kassire]

"If it's not available then it's not available, I'm interested in the other rod."
Go to Riverwatch aswell

[Silthuri]

Devon glares at Sharos. "If you're lying to us, there will be hell to pay." She reluctantly follows the others to Riverwatch.

[lawastooshort]

"I'll... I'll pray for him, or something. This doesn't entirely sit right with me, and I'd like to feel better about it, so I will pray. I'll catch you up in Riverwatch."

Find a comfy rock to sit on, and pray for a couple of hours.
