"Might as well..." Venena approaches Feckle and hands him the two potions

Venena chuckles as she says, "Enjoy... Little one"

"Thank you miss," replied Feckle, accepting the compliment innocently enough. It was true he was of a gracious size, and one that made his prowess seem even greater, but he wasn't sure he should be getting mixed up with this type of woman. She was nearly three times bigger than him, and had purple eyes. His uncle had told him a story about a woman with purple eyes once. His uncle was a crude little beggar, and his mother had blushed, and then thrown a chairleg at his face. Still, something about her voice was curiously pleasing. Venena's voice, not his mothers. Lords, no.

[+1] It takes about eight more hours to get there, thanks to a passing carriage who happened to be looking for extra guards, and you arrive at Riverwatch just in time for the Inn to nearly fill up. The strange robed man is waiting for you however and the group approaches him. He is, unlike most of the inn, not drinking and not talking to anyone. In fact you are the first group to come within more than twenty feet of him

"Ah, you are back." His voice is as strained and raspy as you remember "Did you bring it? You receive no pay without the Scepter."

[3+1] [3+1] Feckle seemed to have taken this moment to give Dimble the healing potions from earlier.

"Then hand it here. Quickly now." The man turns to each of you in turn "You..." he seems to notice something "Where is the other I sent with you? Has he died?"

"He decided that the life of killing wasn't for him, but where the bastard is right now goes far beyond me."
Venena looks to the rest of the group
"Someone took the rod, right?"

"...I may have an inkling. We have a missing rod. We also have a rat bastard who suddenly decided that he couldn't handle the violence and left before we were paid, despite the job being over."

"We... we should go back to where he left us, see if there's a trace. Even just a direction. Or we could look about here. But I'd prefer out there, and fast, before any trace there might be disappears. Might be able to sniff him out. He didn't seem like the type..."

"How unfortunate for him." the robed man rasped before snapping his fingers. There was a small pause before he did so again. "What?" he snapped three more times followed by a rapid snapping "Impossible! The fool honestly thinks... No matter. You four will retrieve the rod. You are contractually obligated. I don't care how you get it from him just get it!"

Return to the crossroad where Eastley left us.

Also return. Search for tracks. Have Dimble sniff for tracks, too.

[+1] After staying the night at the inn you head out, in the early morning, towards where Eastley stole the rod from you. [[Track: 14+4]] Feckle is easily able to discern that Eastley traveled east on the road. The lot of you know enough about the surrounding area to know that he must be following the King's Road across the river. Likely he was trying to reach Alluvial Crossing. You recall it being roughly 20 miles from here. On foot that's about 6 hours of travel. You've already traveled for about two.

"Off to catch the man who carries the rod. I say we follow his tracks now lest he gets more ground than we can catch up to."
Continue the hunt
