Why do we assume it's a plant?

It kinda looks like a plant from what we can see, though it's probably a giant crab or something under the sand.

You turn around and Draw your Spear, performing a quick Airdash at the newly revealed target, and thrusting forward!

You are interrupted by a sudden clack, and darkness.

Your uncontrolled flame breath illuminates the inside of the claw. Judging from the black tar at your feet, you can see that this works like a vile pressure cooker, keeping prey's bodies, and possibly souls inside to decay into a nutritious sludge.

There is no exposed flesh in here, only bone, likely to prevent prey from simply... eating their way out.

"Sup."

Can't we just, Reanimate the bone while its still inside it? we are a necromancer after all, Bones and death are our area of expertise.

Or we could mutate the marrow to feel constant and horrible pain.

We won do that because it'd not actual be harmed but WOULD thrash around harming us. If anything we should mutate in the OTHER direction, numbing it so it doesn't notice it's being killed.

But if we put it in enough pain it'll pass out and maybe even die. Plus presumably we are causing pain by mutating damage.

The chance of us putting it in enough pain to make it pass out before it shakes our bones to powder is probably a lot lower than the chance that we could escape while it doesn't notice... Also, why not just mutate a hole into the bony plates and jump out?

You crack your hands for a subtle feat of magic.

"Foul forces flow from the feet, fear is felt frothing forth in a faint fringe of the fiend's mind for a few moments."

The sensation simply spreads, and so to does your serpentine swishes of your hands as they form symbols, seemingly smooth, but misleadingly malicious.

Claw and bone crack under your control, creaking, the creature's crunchy catch becomes a cruel vice, a venom from within wrenching all will from it.

"A golden glow glimmers, and the grip of the gargantuan grabby goon gets got. Heh." -10 Mana

The creature is squealing now, trembling as it tries to resist your hold.

Tell it to leave us alone. If it does not, incinerate its eye. Either way, leave the claw.
