Yhea, I think it would be best if he just sustained the books for a while, as good as a soul sustained zombie might be, we spent a lot on those bloody books.
Oh, and loot the chest.
Oh, and this was a one time thing, right?
No more hero business from now on.
Right?

Investigate where the store was for our coins. They should not have faded.

Lets keep the soul.

Investigate chest and ruins of cart.

The chest has three latches, one engraved with what looks like parchment, one with a sword, and one with a depiction of a gemstone, You feel that the order you open them has some significance.

Your cart is perfectly fine, other than it's usual scrappyness.

You manage to find your coins on the ground after a lot of scavenging, effectively cheating the system. -3 Elbow grease.

You tell the wizard's soul to sustain the books at least until you decide what to do with him.

It is almost dusk.

Probably gives us items with quality and type dependant on the order.
Parchment, gemstone and then sword.

+1

I feel that it would be a waste to use a loyal soul up on sustaining books. We should spend no more than 24 hours focusing on resting for more pontification points, grab the spells we most want, then put the wizard's soul back in his body.

Hey, Valerik, would your Sustain Undead spell work to extend the soul's life? How long is it safe to have the soul maintaining the books before it starts degrading, resulting in a weaker minion?

Let's see what we want...
Blood circle: yes.
Golem core and craft golem are both great.
Anti aura?
Divination is all great, especially with the golem books.
Crackpot sigil 1, perhaps, it would be great to form a bone golem for a mobile magic container.
Changing sigil would be great.
Deep quaff?
All of homunculi is great.
Any others?

"A powerful soul like his would eat 8 mana a day, and last indefinitely in that state if I sustained it.
10 days, after that his soul is worthless, as it begins to collapse in on itself and releases it's remaining energy in an instinctual bid to form some kind of body, which will usually fail, certainly in his case. Until then, his soul will be able to recover, given time and ambient mana."

You open the chest in the given order, and find a scroll wrapped in red ribbon inside. Inscribed is some kind of spell called "Dragon turtle's fire" Apparently it is a highly variable spell based on a being from another dimension who governed an entire race of turtles, and breathed fire of whatever variety he so chose, by storing it in his stomach and tinting it with his own inner magic.

The Dragon turtle's flame, a Dimensional guide to the elements part I

Flame inhale: Stores 10 charges of fire within your stomach, which can be imbued with any other spell you know and breathed out as either a fireball or a gout of flame. 100% chance to learn.

8 Manna per day for an indefinitely sustained soul until we learn all the stuff we really want?
Sure why not.
Also, check our staff again.

Changing Sigil is practically needed with golem creation.
I want Fusion Sigil. Conceptual fusion could be great fun.
I'm somewhat against Blood Circle and Deep Quaff. If we can kill people for mana, we probably will.

Edit: Oh, we should be able to learn plenty of spells if we can drain the soul for a while and have it recover just fine.

Jesus, that seedling cannot be good for anyone's health.
You know what? We are going to keep this, and never ever let it out until near the end of the game.
It will be a bloody apocalypse.
