"A Xenonaut's abilities are measured based on several different categories. Xenonauts who survive battles tend to increase their attributes, but it doesn't always make sense which abilities improve fastest.

Xenonauts may also receive promotions and medals for distinguished service or particular accomplishments."


"Different Xenonauts may also utilize different pieces of equipment at their discretion. A Xenonaut may be classified by role based on their behavior and equipment, but roles do not have any innate meaning. Xenonauts may define their own custom roles should they feel the need."

"In order to participate in missions, Xenonauts must organize themselves into Battle Groups.

Battle Groups are simply squads of Xenonauts willing and prepared to embark on a mission of some type. Battle Groups may volunteer for any available mission or denote certain qualities they wish to avoid.

Once a Battle Group is officially declared, it is placed on the list in reverse order of its Veterancy Ranking, with lower values higher on the list. A Battle Groups' Veterancy Ranking is the sum total of its members' mission totals. For instance, a squad of eight new recruits would have a Veterancy Ranking of 0, while a squad of four individuals with three missions each would be Veterancy Rank 12.

Whenever a new mission becomes available, the first Battle Group on the list is examined. If it fits the criteria for the mission, it is deployed. If it has specified not to be deployed to the mission type in question, the next Battle Group is examined instead.

Whenever a Battle Group deploys, each Battle Group on the list has its Veterancy Ranking reduced by the Veterancy Ranking of the deploying squad. This means even a high Veterancy squad will eventually make it to the top, rather than being constantly eclipsed by fresh low-Veterancy Groups.

A Xenonaut may not belong to multiple Battle Groups at once, but may rejoin a Battle Group immediately upon returning from a mission unless prevented by injuries, morale, or other such issues."

"Whenever a Battle Group completes a mission, its members are credited with monetary compensation for their efforts. Normally this value is spread evenly, but Battle Groups may denote other division schemes upon formation.

Compensation is granted in the form of Credits and Tokens. Credits are assigned in equal values to the dollar value of salvaged goods during operation. Tokens are granted only for special objectives whose value exceeds that of simple financial worth, such as research specimens or good public relations. Only one Token may be awarded per such objective, and it is up to the Battle Squad to determine who gets it or what to spend it on. In the event that no consensus can be reached, a Token will simply be held in the Battle Group members' names until such time as the surviving members can come to a more permanent agreement.

Credits and Tokens are both spent in a special place available only to Xenonauts. Credits are used for simple things, like building a farm or lake. Tokens are used for more ambitious projects, such as acquiring unique pets."

"Potential Xenonauts are always available for hire, and every month the selection resets. When applying, you may request specific attributes or specific entries, but there is no guarantee of receiving a desired but contested entry.

When dealing with general attributes, priority is given to negative requests first and more requests last. For instance, a request for low bravery and low strength would be filled before a request for high accuracy, even if that meant a high accuracy, low strength, low bravery unit went to the requester who made no mention of high accuracy. Thus, requesting high values in everything is unlikely to be especially productive, while requesting a mixture of high and low attributes is likely to succeed assuming such entries are available at all."

Physical Description: Years spent as a sci-fi writer have given him a unkempt, bookish appearance, but in a kind of threatening/intimidating/wild-eyed way.  Yet he is well-traveled and has backpacked through Europe and South America.  Speaks with an Aussie accent and insists thongs are worn on the feet.
Mental Description: Potentially unhinged - entirely certain this is a VR experiment, things might go South if it is conclusively proven to be real.  For his latest book, he researched various weapons and made himself known to several intelligence agencies around the world, including Interpol, he has been given access to low-security cases as a consultant before, so his presence here is not all that surprising - to him that is.
Preferred Stats: Accuracy and reactions.
Preferred Loadout: Precision rifle, but will start with a shotgun in hand, swapping as required for distant targets, 2 smoke grenades, 1 extra ammo clip for each weapon.  (If he is not strong enough for all this then swap the shotgun for a pistol.)
Battlefield Behavior: Focussed on finding the VR glitches, which are obviously inside houses and on top of rooves, where no-one is expected to go, therefore, the modellers don't put in the same amount of effort in mesh details/polygon count.
Base Behavior: Spends his time writing his next novel about alium conquest of earth, and the everyday hero who saves the world with a well-aimed can of tuna.

Physical Description: Is definitely not an alien. Those ears are not just for show. Great in night battles.
Mental Description: A girl having to deal with a lot in many ways. Serious, yet feminine, with a lot hint of combat craziness. When with her base-mates, she gets concerned about how carefree some are. This sometimes results in lectures that she Just. Won't. Stop. Conversations tend to either be short or slowly degrade into awkward, insane, tangents.
Preferred Stats: Reaction and Time Units. Strength instead of reaction if you prefer another role for that character.
Preferred Loadout: Combat/Assault shield, pistol, medpack/smoke/stun/lethal grenades as necessary. Pistol is just there to test luck with reaction fire, grenades are primary armament.(Effectiveness will probably heavily depend on difficulty)
Battlefield Behavior: Starts out calm, behavior slowly becomes increasingly erratic until it reaches a peak. Then bad things happen to boom. Her after-combat high is starting to become something of a legend.
Base Behavior: Normally spends most of her time in quiet contemplation. However, while her mind wanders, so does her body. Whether pacing in circles, walking into awkward situations, or sneaking into the kitchen and eating all the food.

Mental Description: Jésus loves money, guns and the gradual downfall of the capitalist system. He is focused (on the death of the enemy), diligent (in maintaining his weapons), generous (in unleashing lead) and adaptive (to new, high-tech weapons and new alien abominations).
Preferred Stats: Lots of Time Units and/or high Reflexes.
Preferred Loadout: Rifle, pistol, grenades, and a C4. Mobility is prized over firepower, though.
Battlefield Behavior: Years of experience as a left-wing guerilla and mercenary have left Jésus convinced that stealth, ambushes and general unfair fighting is the key to winning any engagement.
Base Behavior: Years of experience as an infiltrator in a fascist junta kitchen have left Jésus with excellent cooking skills (and knowledge of smuggling high explosives into secure places). He also likes to practice his sneaking skills whenever possible, usually at the expense of other teammates.

I put so much effort into that picture you will keep my alive even if it kills everyone else, damnit.

It just occurred to me that we should have parked somewhere with more landmass. Because when UFOs go down over water it's unsalvageable.

Well it's pretty often that you get to attack UFOs that have landed in your sight range. We've got decent coverage over the whole east coast of the US as well, anything flying West over the mainland from the Atlantic we'll be able to chase down.

It's really not so bad, our radar range is already decent and no doubt we can upgrade.
