How do you de-activate the extra key bindings that make strange things happen?

Example:
p,p should bring up a weapons stockpile placement interface. Instead, sometimes it brings up "no buildings nearby".
m should bring up the military screen.  Instead, sometimes it brings up somekind of a Dwarf Preferences interface.

I do not know how to deactivate them but I remember someone saying how those are bound to alt-some key but the way alt-tabbing works means that it never gets the key-released signal so alt acts as if it is stuck. If you press alt again it should fix it though.

Your alt key is stuck from alt-tabbing. Since your active process is DF when you alt tab, it thinks its still pressing alt, because when you release your alt key, your active process is whatever you alt-tabbed to.

I could have probably worded that way less confusing.

Press alt once ingame to fix it.
