Huh, good point... make that 2.4 shields. The Pinion Orbital Defense should also have 3.6ish shields, and all the other Force Field using ships should have at least more shields than the sqrt of Point Defense.

Another thing: when you say the aliens are talking in a 'foreign language', is it anything recognisable? Also, when you say these aliens sound 'surprisingly human', what do the Kaa sound like?

It should be an alien language, to be pedantic. It's not an Earth language, but it's probably pronounceable by humans.

The Kaa language sounds very harsh and guttural, plus it involves pronunciations that are a tad hard for us to imitate.

Kaa > Translators
Otheraliens > Probably not using those translators.

So we may be able to communicate with them.

...If we can research communication quickly. That seems best (while spending our research creds for CapShips)

We may possibly learn from them, by the way. Unlike console/PC games, I like how this game is unorthodox with multiple paths to even approach a problem.

It makes it fun.

  • Scout M2b #0 will attempt to broadcast a message of goodwill and peace (i.e. something like "In the name of humanity we greet you and hope that our future relationship will be peaceful and prosperous"). Then it will either stay at a distance from the frigate for a few days if we don't have enough data on the new aliens' language to translate in the hopes of getting such data, or it will attempt to leave for Olympus if we have enough data or the aliens prove hostile (in which case it will try to open fire on the fighters nearby unless this would jeopardise its escape)
  • The Erinyes at Sol will move to Crowbar
  • Both the Colonizer Beta built this turn and the one built last turn are to move to Olympus
Research & Production:
  • Construct a Colonizer Beta (-50 Credits)

She points at the starchart, from the far 'east' then back at Sol.

"We've encountered a clawship from that direction, and we've also encountered what we've seen are their enemies--those yet-unnamed aliens which seem to have the same lingual construction as our languages (though not with the same semantics that is). It fled to Sol and began heading westwards.

"Considering the fight at P.Foxtrot, and that we've lacking armaments to battle a carrier of that magnitude (and weaponry), I would believe that the routes from P.Alpha, though far from its staging point, would either lead to another area for the Kaa, or someplace better. Though for that distance, I'd advise we research up bigger ships for manned colony projects in the future.

"It seems the logistical line is running short from here on out. I wonder how the Kaa are mostly ready to extract their dead in deep territory..."

Research Satellite Sensor Suite.
Increase Production.
Research Super Conductors.
Send Hercules in Pelsk Alpha back to Sol.
Have Hercules in Pelsk Delta take the Alien Scouts instead of Pelsk Scout, and start returning to Sol.

Pelsk of Cruaraea

Production is increased to 4 for 100 credits. It will cost Pelsk 200 credits to increase production to 5.

With technology gleaned from the wrecks of the alien ships, vast progress is made towards constructing even larger ships (Capital Ships I).

Pelsk spends 40 credits in researching Double Colonization. 40 more are put towards sensor suite satellite tech, and 40 towards Superconductors.

The Hercules in Pelsk Alpha flies back to Sol and deposits the Scout and Alien Scout wreckages, giving Pelsk 0.5 research credits and 5 credits. With this, the research credits per Alien Scout has been reduced to 0.4.

A Hercules arrives at Pelsk Delta and loads two Alien Scouts. It turns around and heads off towards Sol to arrive in 2 turns.

Pelsk Echo:
The unmanned colony on the surface of Pelsk Echo Prime sends a warning signal to Mission Control on Earth. Alien contacts have appeared in the system, consisting of a Clawship and four Interceptors along with a Tier Five-sized ship. Tier 5 ships are, on average, twelve times more massive than a Turul or Emer (both tier 3), and one hundred times the volume of a Erinyes Gunship (tier 2). This one has no armament at all and a shape that seems to maximize volume, along with a sluggish speed of 0.6. Its escorts are practically insects next to the bulk of this huge, golden behemoth. The ships start crossing the system, and one of them sends a message addressed to Pelsk. "We are only passing through, alien, to the position described in your records as Keep-Accurate-Disease. Attempt to harm us, and retribution shall be swift and deadly." They pause at the end of system in the lane between Pelsk Echo and Pelsk Charlie, as if waiting for a response. The voice is machine-translated like the previous envoys.

With an income of 204+5, Pelsk's has a net loss of 11 credits this turn.


Amelia of Kasselyn

The twin planets of Pelsk Echo are renamed Lux and Umbra. CostAttentionPlay is now Nihil. Nihil/Alpha is renamed to Scintilla.

A Colonizer Alpha is sent towards Pelsk Delta and will arrive in 2 turns, burning along with its one-use rocket engines. Amelia's Hercules is still headed to Pelsk Delta, arriving next turn. She also builds a Colonizer Beta for 100 credits and sends it to Nihil; it will arrive next turn. Next, she finishes Enhanced Repairs for 20 credits, lowering repair costs from max 50% to max 33% of purchase.

Amelia scans the skies of Nihil for 10 credits. There is one system connected to Nihil, dubbed PercentOffAcres at a distance of 0.21. The Turul fleet (two Turuls and an M3a) immediately set towards the close system.

PercentOffAcres has one colonizable planet and a thick asteroid belt surrounding its sun. Alien exhaust trails are present here, and so are some Kaa. A pair of Scouts and an Interceptor exit a sort of ... portal, or wormhole, constructed near a gas planet that is not colonizable. The infrastructure clasped around the portal looks fairly fragile... What will Amelia do? (if she attacks, she has initiative)

She also scans the skies of Pelsk Delta for 10 credits, using the M3a of Zakharov's. There are three systems connected to Pelsk Delta: CloseDoorInstead, RushManagedSatellites, and KnifeMenGently (fun fact, the generated words were knife men gently tomorrow in that order). The star systems are 2.59, 0.95, and 1.71 units away respectively.

Finally, she pays Zakharov 75 credits for Kinetic Missile research.

With an income of 195, Amelia has a net loss of 20 credits this turn.


Fletcher of the Titanian Republic

The Scout at KeepAccurateDisease sits there, eavesdropping on whatever radio communications it can intercept. The two alien fighters are content and how still their quarry is, and otherwise doesn't open fire. The message broadcasted by the scout seems to have been ignored.

The grey-ship aliens are definitely making something. An intricate, large framework is slowly constructed, in the shape of a sphere and many times larger than the frigate itself. Other ships come and go, including many freighter craft.

Once the Scout has many hours of recorded conversation, it slooowly turns around -- as to not alarm its escorts, which rotate every few hours -- and powers out of the system. It is not impeded. One research credit towards Alien Languages has been obtained! Also, Alien Languages has been reduced to 40 * 3 because reasons. The Erinyes at Sol moves to Crowbar.
Fletcher builds a Colonizer Beta for 50 credits, and moves his pair of Colonizers moves to Olympus and awaits Double Colonization.

Double Colonization is researched for 40 credits, and commissioned to Zakharov for 30 credits. Finally, Fletcher increases production by 1 for 50 credits.

With an income of 120 credits, Fletcher has a net loss of 50 credits this turn.


Zakharov of the Euroslavic Federation gains 25 credits for Kinetic Missiles from Amelia and 10 from Fletcher for Double Colonization. Patents gains +3 from the former and +2 from the latter. Finally, he produces a Scout M3a for 120 credits. He sends it to SpaceBendSign (presumably) to arrive in 1 turn.

Next, the scout in Delta flies towards CloseDoorInstead (randomly picked), to arrive next turn.

With an income of 150, the Federation has a net gain of 30 credits.
