HM.

I think I'll be banning this Gate thing and relegating Truenamer to tier 4, then.

Guys, if the problem is simply Gate, I'll just switch it. It's no big deal.
Fixed.
I only took it cause the guide said to take it.

Regarding the item familiar:
I derped and gave my IF too many bonuses in Truespeak. It's been fixed. For reference, the math is in the Other Notes section.

I'm briefly tempted to drop Skill Focus: Truespeak in exchange for another Item Familiar, but that's silly.
I'll just get a +30 Truespeak item for 90k.

Yeah, I wasn't really certain if there was a DC for it already, given the less than clear wording of much of the text for the class.

I do agree with you that just banning ConGate entirely would be the easy way to handle things, and probably the right way -- Truenamer isn't anywhere remotely near T6 if you allow the use of things to get around the scaling issue, though by the same token the bulk of the class isn't good enough to compete with T1s either. Especially when the other options from LotPM are still decent, though not brilliant, considering that AtSE is easy to save vs. or avoid at this level, though it has some good applications as an armykiller.

Deny Passage, though, that's super fucking vague. From the description it sounds like PfE targeting a location rather than a creature, with no alignment restriction, but I have no clue if it also blocks possession attempts through the barrier, or if it grants the deflection and save bonuses to creatures on the opposite side of it from the creature or creatures being contained for attacks through it. Likewise, the description says that the target is unable to interact with the barrier, but does that prevent it being overcome by SR? It shouldn't, but the text is so poorly written... ;.;

I suppose we'll see what happens when Tawa checks in.

Oh hey, ninjas.

But yeah, Harbinger, do you have any more of a clue about what the hell is going on with Deny Passage's text than I do?

Yeah, that's 'cause it's a no-brainer. It's just that good, especially compared to the competition.

I'm briefly tempted to drop Skill Focus: Truespeak in exchange for another Item Familiar, but that's silly.
I'll just get a +30 Truespeak item for 90k.
Taking Item Familiar twice wouldn't work, the benefits don't stack.

But yeah, Harbinger, do you have any more of a clue about what the hell is going on with Deny Passage's text than I do?
WoTC blew all their editing and playtesting budget on Binder (and maybe a little bit on Shadowcaster).
Seriously, the whole Truenaming section is just... shit. Flavour-wise it works, but the mechanics are vague, poorly-designed, missing things they really should have (No ability for Truenamers to replicate Power Words? Despite them being flavoured as more limited Truenaming? *Sigh*).
That said, my understanding of it: It's duplicating this
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
bit of Protection from Evil, not the rest of it. When you ward the area, you block any creatures from crossing the boundary of the zone, unless you give them permission as an immediate action when they try (despite this contradicting the fluff text for it), or attacking across it with natural weapons.

Tawa:
10. This is, more or less, a test run for insanely high-level campaigns. Plan accordingly.
A question: does this mean that the campaign will be continuing up into 30+ territory, or is "insanely high level" referring to low-epic (which is rather insanely high by PbP standards :P)?

Wait, no.
To get a magic item with Skill bonus (competence) costs [bonus squared] × 100 gp BUT, if it requires a specific skill and class to use, that cuts it down by 40%.
So a +32 item is 61,440 gp.
MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.
+40 for 96000 gp.
MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.

Taw, is this okay?

Amulet of Truestspeak
This amulet has been shaped to resemble a human speaking.
This item only confers its bonus on those with levels in the Truenamer class, with at least 20 ranks in Truespeak.
This item provides its bonus as long as it is worn.
This item grants a +50 bonus on Truespeak checks.
Price: 150,000 GP.

Edit: Do you have a link to your sheet, Harbingerjm?

Technically RAW, but crafting your items so that other people have a harder time taking them and using them and getting a discount for doing this is generally seen as extremely cheesy.

It could also be 1 rank, or 23. It's up to Taw.

Doesn't really change the point.

Edit: On reflection, giving the discount for an item of Truenaming is probably fairly balanced, given the purpose of it and just how dependent the class is on it.

Was thinking up to 30, no more or less.

@Amulet of Truestspeak: yeaaaah scrap that notion you can pay the regular price if you want that thing.

Tawa: There's a reverse-engineered enchantment (using the rules for creating custom magic items to figure out how much gold was left over after everything else included in the spear) from an item in Ghostwalk (Rapid Wrath) which doubles the movement speed of the creature carrying it, and costs 3,400gp. Would you allow the use of that? I'm asking specifically because I was considering taking Dark Transient as an epic feat in order to improve my ability to transport the party around (it allows Greater Teleport for self + Greater Teleport with the chance of error from Teleport for groups, as well as perfect-accuracy Planeshift for self + normal Planeshift for groups), and because it requires Fell Flight as one of the pre-reqs (the feat itself boosts it to [land speed + 30'] (perfect).

Basically, I want to slap that enchantment on my scepter to bring my land speed up to 30' so that Fell Flight isn't a complete waste of an invocation once I get the feat. That said, if you don't allow it, I'll probably shuffle things around anyways, unless you flat out tell me that we won't need a reliable means of travel (which seems unlikely, given the nature of our goal). If you don't allow the enchantment, though, I'm going to switch out a feat to get (perfect) on my natural flight.

As a note, I'm purposefully avoiding Shadowmaster, because I thought you probably wouldn't appreciate someone with access to all 8th-level and below arcane Conjuration spells at-will, even if they're only at 80% effectiveness.  :P

Sounds good. Swapped in Improved Flight anyways, to cover the level in between. But yeah, between that and my Crystal Ball with Telepathy we should have all of our scrying+transportation+communication needs covered at 21st level, without any stinky wizards or spending money on scrolls.
