creating bones via reaction?
« on: October 15, 2014, 11:51:39 am »

i want to make a reaction to burn corpses or corpsepieces to bones. i noticed the BONES item type was removed some versions ago and im unsure wether CORPSE or CORPSEPIECE can do the trick. would it be possible to just make one of these made of bone and get usable bones  that way? do they have any valid subtypes?

Can you elaborate on what you want to do with the bones?

As far as I can tell, you can't make vanilla bones with a reaction. However, if you want to use the bones for custom reactions only, I've created a bone placeholder which you can see here.

nah sadly i need the real thing, the only reason i want to do this is to prevent my species of animal-loving vegetarians from commiting mass-suicide over failed moods :/ they cant butcher, so i need some way to get bones, throwing things down deep holes didnt work.

so i tried this:

[REAGENT:body part:1:CORPSEPIECE:NONE:NONE:NONE]
      [USE_BODY_COMPONENT]
[PRODUCT:100:1:CORPSEPIECE:NONE:CREATURE_MAT:ELK:BONE][PRODUCT_DIMENSION:150]

but it crashed the game. is there a way to reference the actual creature that was used in the reaction, and then the bone material thereof?

AFAIK throwing things down deep holes WILL work, so long as it is alive (or undead) when it makes the trip.
One of my fortresses had an ~80z drop shaft, and after a year or two of "testing" I had more goblin and elf bone than I knew what to do with :) Each body part will rot down to a small pile of bone except one, that part is considered the "skeleton" and needs to be butchered (if possible).

Sadly making bones in a reaction is still impossible :(

You could make a new material called "bone" and turn corpse chunks into that. I know it's not quite what you want, but it'll get the job done.

No fake bones will not work for moods.
