Vasta Terra- D10 based RPG in development
« on: October 14, 2014, 10:04:23 am »

As I cannot describe things well, Im just going to put links here. But frankly, Im surprised at how little attention this is getting...

Youtube video talking about it (Not my video)(hes not playing the game)
Reuload of above, because "obviously-not board game gameplay was confusing to people. You get to stare at a photo now. Enjoy."
Kickstarter page with not enough cash thrown at it
Facebook page for the one person who uses facebook

My only issue with this is that I dont have money to throw.

Super confusing video as he's playing Zombie Atom Smasher (I believe) and talking about an RPG book that is in no way related (possibly worth updating the OP).

RPG books I find interesting, but there seems to be no where near enough info on the kickstarter page to get people that excited. Yeah, some interesting classes in an interesting setting, but not really enough about what differentiates it from other RPGs.

With enough work and polish, it could have been a forgettable flash game on Kongregate.

Why is it interesting? Maybe if you told us about it..?

Because this is the first I saw of it and only two people at backed at that point.

Well, from what I can tell, theres modifications, bionic limbs... Other than that, the D10.

These videos are terrible. I doubt people will donate. They don't show or explain the gameplay at all. They just talk about the backdrop. I couldn't figure out what you actually do in the game.

I didnt realize he was showing a different game and explaining this one. This is likely a scam.

I do have that pointed out, as does the description of the video.

You know what's better than showing a unrelated video game while talking about your game?  Showing art, show art related to your setting, your ideas for characters, your ideas for places.  You know what else works besides showing a competing product?  Showing your face, make a video of you and others who are working or interested in the project as you talk about the project.

It's not even that the zombie atom smasher in the background is a different product, it's distracting.  Same with the KS video, he's boring and the background is distracting.

Idea's neat, doesn't need to be KSed.  Age of digital distribution kind of kills the idea of HAVING to fund a book.  Sell it online and THEN use those funds to produce a physical copy.

Art, formating, and an editor all cost monies. Digital disrubution lowers the bar it doesn't make it go away. Only idiots would pay for a text only pdf with poor formatting and typos.

And what so special about it using a d10?

Most things use D20 or D100.
Or a mix of everything.

I wonder if I can get money from kickstarter by showing Dwarf Fortress and claim I'm making a d20 game. Then make people think what I am showing is my game. Id have my fund goal much lower than. Something like $2000. since I dont think I could BS all that many people. I just need a few people to give me a handout. Instread of washing windows homeless people need to do kickstarters. Seems like a better way to get donations.

D6 is still pretty popular, but why place importance on the polyhedral?

Talking over a totally unrelated video seems uh, pretty inadvisable.  Although I am suddenly interested in throwing my money at Zombie Atom Smasher or whatever that thing was called.

D6 is still pretty popular, but why place importance on the polyhedral?
Dice shape changes percentage, I guess?  It may also be that different dice systems have a sort of 'expectation' as to how they work and what they suit, perhaps.  Like how if you're using d20s you expect it to be like D&D, which sorta makes the expectation that you're gonna spend a lot of time killing dudes and taking their stuff, because that's what D&D's built good for, and the d20 is iconic for it.

I know FantasyCraft also uses d20 - I never did or read anything like a system analysis on it, or compared the mechanics to D&D, but a more active PNP friend of mine mentioned that "it was just D&D, but a little more different than Pathfinder".  So, apart from a buncha little details, presumably the core mechanics are the same.  If it were another generic fantasy RPG, it might have an edge up solely because it was a generic fantasy RPG in not-d20; you know, something different, and which thus may experiment more.

Or something.  I'm mostly talking out of my ass.

D6 has a reputation for being old-school in the "I have one in my snakes and ladder set, let's go before it's bedtime" way. (Which is a shame, I really prefer the 3d6 probability curve to 1d20.)
Also, I find it amusing how the only example of dice rolling on the page is d% (not d10).

deleted paragraph: disregard my point, he says the text is already written.

I don't even understand why you would want to use a die that so few people are likely to have, instead of one that is much more abundant.

...

He might get more ironic pledges if it were a D4-based RPG. (Worst die ever.)
