The Laugh cautiously bit into the batcon, eyebrow raising at the strange flavour. She'd not tasted something sweet before.
"It is strange. Good, but strange."
Her next bites were significantly larger.

She snorted at the flail demonstration.
"Magic or not, it is veak. Try swinging zhis for a veapon."

She held out all forty pounds of hammer with one arm.

"I just know of many noblemen or commoners who get duped into buying something that looks deadly which only gets them killed. Spiked swords, double sided swords, hell even a Dire Flail at one point. Do you know what happened to the last one? He swung it and hit his opponents shield before the other end of the weapon brained himself. I simply loathe that sort of thing. A good, basic, design is worth all the aesthetic in the world. I just worry about our captain is all. You seem the type to prefer elaborate designs. I'd hate to see you killed over something like that."

Osirio smiled.

"I'm glad you enjoy it, Ava. My Father may have taught me how to fight and kill-and when not to do those things-but, my Mother taught me how to cook. It is rare I have shown the skills she taught me, whereas many have found the brunt end of my fathers teachings to their eternal satisfaction.

As for the weapon, there are some things you need magic to truly harm. If your hammer is only steel, you might find it less than useful against certain foes-it takes magic to kill magic, you know. We must see to having your weapon enchanted."

"Osirio is unlikely to be killed by his own weapon, surely...as for elaborate designs, that is merely the Elvishness in me. I enjoy the trappings of power and luxury. I like to do things with a certain amount of style-as the leader of a Mercenary band, how I portray myself to the world is almost as important as the quality of armor I wear. I must not only be seen to be a survivor, but one who maintains an mythic air. It's all a show, of course, but what else is life?"

Ava shrugged.
"Vancy weapons and skills are vorthless. If you kill all who oppoze you, zhen zhey should speak vell of you, vancy weapon or not.."

[Dwarmin]

"Well, there lies in the dilemma of the warrior mercenary, Ava. Is it not enough to be feared or respected-we must also be paid."

[GiglameshDespair]

"I survived vell as a bandit, raiding zhe villages and meat vagons."

[Dwarmin]

"You survived, merely-you did not thrive. And this, until you were captured, and nearly put to death." Osirio counters. "My way is much more efficient. The Mercenary can fight as often as he likes, and is paid to do so-there is no shortage of people willing to pay-and, the Law is on his side. He needs tie himself to nothing but his own ideals and those he fights besides."

"Vhen I vas a child, yes. As I grew, I vas stronger. I vas feared. I had plenty of food, and gold for zhat matter, zhough it vas of no use to me."

Osirio points to Ava as if she just proved his point.

"Exactly. Everything you did, what do you have of those efforts now? You are alive, surely, but that is all. You earned nothing that you could keep. Nothing of any worth."

Ava shrugged.
"If ve ever head up North, ve could find my lair and see vhat it holds inside. I left zhe zhings zhere by choice. Zhey don't matter much if I cannot use zhem."

[Dwarmin]

"That is your past, though.

Have you ever thought of the future, Ava? Your Future?" He asks, interested.

[GiglameshDespair]

"I thought about if I had enough food to survive the seasons. As for now... no, I have not. I follow you to repay zhe luck. I may die in combat before zhen, so zhere is no point making plans."

[Dwarmin]

"How long can you make that argument, Ava? You will die, no matter what. So will I. The bane of the mortal. May die? I sense a great arrogance about you, little-snow-girl.

You can't use that as an excuse.

You have to want something for yourself. You make plans because you *will* die, not because you *may* die. The plans you make are what we do before that happens-in other words, living your life." Osirio says simply.

"Zhere is nothing I particuarly vant." She said thoughfully.
"Having enemies to fight and meat to eat is enough."

[Dwarmin]

"Hard to think a response to that. Then again, what else have you to look upon for example...to aspire to..." Osirio muses, to himself.
