Questions : When does the illustrated part of the Illustrated Strategy Game kick in. Having a map would be nice. Having some more general information would also be nice.

Behemoths of the Sky

July: 1900

On a small lake in South-Eastern a mysterious machine emerges from a shed, floating on the lake. Taking of gracefully, the construction of aluminium and fabric, held aloft by the flammable hydrogen gas, slowly makes it way up from the lake, and into the air. Though these airships, as they're called, have been constructed before, the techniques used in this airship are newer and more advanced, allowing them to be made larger, stronger and more useful than their experimental counterparts.

On it's first flight however, a strong wind took hold of the airship, blowing it of course and forcing it to make an emergency landing, by coincidence near the one of the Royal Palaces. Always a visionary and somewhat eccentric, the King supported the development of this technology, hoping to have found a means of connecting the furthest reaches of the empire to the main land.

((Truly, you can't have an alternate history without airships))

Oh, sorry, I've been a slight tad busy.  Update will come tonight.  Map may come latter, I'm on my phone, which does not have paint.  Waiting on Italy and Scandinavia.

Would you like more info about our countries? Especially the ones which aren't versions of real ones.

Initiate the Baltic Trade Act;
For the first time in centuries the same country control both Denmark and Skåne, effectively ruling the only way into the Baltic sea. The King of Scandinavia is quick to use this fact. Directing most trade to Scandinavian cities, and taxing all foreign gods, effectively making Scandinavian goods cheaper than its counterparts while giving  a healthy boost to the treasury. Scandinavia's strong Naval tradition will hopefully be able to stop any ship from sneaking past the tariffs.

Initiate the Industrial Act:

The Income from the Baltic trade Act will be invested into Scandinavian industries. Also, experts will be requited from abroad.

Message to all other Major Powers:
Scandinavia is requiring personnel and materials for new industries. And is willing to subside Oil, Metal and Coal in exchange of competent experts who might help Scandinavia industrialise faster.

Initiate a Economical agreement with The lower countries:
Their tradesmen will have lower tariffs, and Oil, Iron and Coal will be sold to them at a lower price. In return, Scandinavia expects help with setting up her industries.

Here is the map.  Took me about an hour.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

You think you're backwards?  Look at Poland.  A democracy.  Government doesn't do anything for its people, who are simple farmers, living on the simplest of needs, yet they are some of the happiest people in the world.

The Germans are a rich group of states that really only care about money.  That is why they're rich.  They will band together to protect their interests though.  Some of them are not really German, but German conquests.  If needed, I'll go into more detail, but for now it is unnecessary.

Oh, and a LOT of Nev's territory is located in Asia, but seeing as Asia is irrelevant to this turn, I'll create the world map latter.

Waiting on Italy.

Edit: Also, I have enough information on certain nations.  I should probably come up with basic information on each one, just in case there is a difference between my, the GM's, perception and the players' perception.  It'll come up in this turn if I decide to.

Lyrian has created the Child Act, increasing the age children can start working at and better education.

What, I'm fantasy-France? We're done, it's all over, I might as well surrender now :P. Can I change my action? If so:

Rordalia begins establishing colonies in Northern Africa, either by signing treaties with the governments in place there or by force if necessary.

Ah right, didn't think this game was multiplayer.

Our Lake, Our Ships, Our Trade
Urged on by the Italian trade companies and their suppliers, the Emirs have decided that the Mediterranean is but an extension of Italian territory. Basing their claim on their descent from Rome, they have renamed the whole sea Mare Nostrum. Large fleets of coal-driven ships have been drafted for construction and it has been rumoured that the Wali of Venice has organised research on advanced steel-cladded ships capable of long-ranged fire!

Nevan-Italian Free Trade Agreement
The Emirs of Italy have been advised to seek a free agreement with the great nation of Nev, a truly free and prosperous country.

Edit: Also, I did say that the UEI only had control of Southern Italy..but ah well, doesn't matter too much I guess. Also, I'm missing the whole of Sicily :x. Kinda important.
Edit 2: Also realised I only have 1 action per year. I've cut down my actions but have left in the free-trade agreement since its an action between players; not sure if that comes under the 1 action per turn rule.

Emirs have chosen wisely, perhaps some of our freedom and prosperity will rub off on them. We can hammer out the details later, but the gist is we want your coal and industrial machinery and will send you metal, oil and fur coats.

The Emirs would gladly aid in the Nevan industrialisation for some of raw materials...

1901:And so It Begins

Lyrian

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Lyrian politicians decided to create a new government based on Republicanism.  However, about half the people really don't want that, believing that it is against nature.  So Lyrian will have to settle with a constitutional monarchy, which does have some degree of democracy, just the nation still has a king.  Sorry, but the people don't want change right now, and are quite willing to fight back against it.

First act of the new "elected" offices is to apply restrictions on employment of children.  Certain people are slightly annoyed at the stripping of their rights to send their child to work.  Especially because it is the only way they'll survive as a family.  Certain businesses do not pay that much to their workers.  Enough to support one person, *maybe*.  Thus why child labor was generally accepted during this time, because the kids gotta work for their family survive.  You just screwed a lot of people over.  Stupid middle class reformers.

The one good thing is that standards of education are established.  Those standards are VERY poor, but still.

Rordalia

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

You are fantasy Spain.  Except worse.  You have sweatshops, because being an arid dessert means jobs aren't too easy to find.  It is quite profitable work, considering you have the market of all the other civilized nations here.  Import cotton, export shirts.  That kind of thing.  You do have agriculture, but it is based on the rivers and flood plains that surround the area.  You do have irrigation, and it does work, it is an early example of man made efforts to control nature.  Oh, and you have a really good mobile military.  Cavalry, because your nation is pretty much a vast arid plain.  Your infantry is pretty good as well, if you consider average to be good for a standing army.

You spend some time organizing a team of highly skilled engineers to build fortifications along the side of France Rordalia.  You want to go colonize North Africa?  Well, I'll give you the results next turn with the world map.

Scandinavia

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Well, in the good news, basic Scandanavian consumer industry is protected, and is growing.  In the bad news, stuff is really expensive.  A lot of goods shipped over from the Low Countries is helping, like coal and much of the mechanical parts are as well.  A lot of Low Country goods are appearing in Scandanavian markets as well.  They are making a profit over the lack of consumer goods there.  This should be temporary, but adds discontent to certain people.

Low Countries

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The Low Countries attempted to build a Zeppelin.  They did fail that first time, but they've pretty much solved all the kinks with their planning.  Note, they don't have any, they just have the ability to produce some.  Not that they have any bombs to strap to it or anything.

United Emirates of Italy

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Opening day, the people have lined up to witness a new step in European Naval warfare.  Taking a direct fire artillery piece and strapping it to a piece of metal is all nice and dandy, but now, those artillery pieces are strong enough to kill the artillery.  Sadly, this is only a prototype by an eccentric man who ordered a team of engineers to produce one.  Needless to say, the quality is left to be desired.  Generic unnamed pre-dreadnought acquired, fitted with generic cannons.

Oh, and a supply of Nevian steel has arrived to enable you to enter mass production of this horrible, horrible, design, or refine it and make it better/specialized.

Nev

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Industry WILL BE built.  AND IS being built.  You know what isn't?  Food.  People are starving.  You are slowly depopulating the land, this isn't very popular.  I'd fix that.  On the bright side, food from Italy is helping out with shortages.  You are also shipping steel and stuff to Italy.

(Agriculture is not in the 4-year plan. Suppressing discontent is, however. Make my day punks)
-Order the national industrial design bureau to create a mechanical tractor to replace missing peasants. ( and there better be a factory to build it -Stahlmann told Elder of Labor Mutzenener- by the time the design is finished)
-Create a council subcommittee to find the people causing a food shortage, then take their hoarded food. (with all the farmland we have there's no way we have systemic shortages)
-build schools, buy Italian food, offer lunches to top 50% performing kids. (every crisis is - Maria ate another cake- an opportunity in disguise)
