Earth's Secret Committee for Intersetellar Defense (SG)
« on: October 12, 2014, 11:39:20 am »

It's the year 2700.

Hundreds of years ago, humanity discovered the secrets of faster than light travel, and established colonies in far away worlds. The amount of raw materials coming to Earth from the colonies helped to initiate Humanity's Golden Age. Science and Technology developed at an incredible speed, and it seemed like Humanity would be able to start inter galactic travel before the end of the millenium.

But something happened. One by one, colonies started to stop communicating. Teams sent to discover the cause of the communication disruption never returned. Now without all the precious resources coming from the colonies, Earth's society started to crumble, and World War III started. For almost two centuries, Earth was at war. Thanks to early sabotage operations, nukes and similar weapons weren't available during the war. And as the war approached it's first century, some technology started to disappear, as places where it was stored were destroyed and the different armies started to concentrate into producing cheaper, less complex weapon.

In the end, there was peace, and humanity is starting to recover. The next step is to start recovering the lost colonies, as the materials that could be gained are vital to Earth's survival. However Earth's new government, the Coalition, as they call themselves, knows that the tragedy that led to war could be repeated.

Thus, ESCID, Earth's Secret Committee for Intersetellar Defense, was created. Still a small scale organization with few resources, you have been given control of it to transform it into a special forces army able to deal with crises with the minimum amount of resources.

This is a Suggestion game about you creating and leading an organization to end threats to humanity while it expands through the galaxy. Technology is quite advanced in some areas, but not so advanced in others, as Humanity is recovering from a very long war.

But first things first:

Who are you: Your name
Which faction of the Coalition proposed you for the position? There are four options.
-The Unitarians are a religious faction that preaches that Humanity must stand together in order to survive, and they are the ones responsible for ending the war. (Hiring non trained staff is 50% cheaper)
-The Gatherers were one of the two main sides of the war. They dedicated themselves to gathering the lost knowledge of ancient technologies. This allowed them to survive until the end of the war even though they weren't a militaristic faction. (Hiring specialized scientific staff is 25% cheaper)
-The Alexandrians are a militaristic and heteregenous faction. The only general traits of the faction members is that they believe that warfare is the greatest form of art, and that only at war does a person show his true self. (Hiring specialized military staff is 25% cheaper)
-None of them. Only after it was clear that no faction would accept someone from a different faction, your name was brought to the table. Whatever your job was, you did it as a mercenary, working for whichever faction gave you the best offer at the moment. (Factions offer greater rewards for giving priority to their requests)
What did you do during the war?
-You were a frontline soldier, who could be found wherever the fight was thickest. After some time, your actions made you become a sergeant, and little by little you got higher up the ranks. (High combat skills, Good leadership skills, Mediocre intellectual skills).
-You studied the art of war in books and videos, and led your men against the enemy from the security of a bunker. Although sometimes you were ashamed of not being able to fight among your fellow men, you knew your skills were better put in use there. ( High Leadership skills, Good Intellectual skills, Mediocre Combat skills).
-You were a leader of men, and men followed you even if they knew they would die. You marched among them, and some of them actually took bullets that were shot at you. (High Leadership skills, Good Combat skills, Mediocre Intellectual skills)
-You were the leader of scientist team, rediscovering the technology of long gone days. As such you had to lead a very diverse group of experts from several cultures. (High Intellectual skills, Good Leadership skills, Mediocre Combat skills)
-You were a field technician, repairing equipment and fighting as you did it. You possibly even created bionic replacements for yourself during the war in order to keep doing your duty. (High Intellectual Skills, Good Combat Skills, Mediocre Leadership Skills)
-You were a scavenger, fighting over the remnants of lost machinery to claim it for your cause. Most factions obtained their techonology this way, and such it was a dangerous job. (High Combat Skills, Good Intellectual Skills, Mediocre Leadership Skills)

You were presented 3 projects when you took this position. Which one did you choose? (will determine starting special resources, bear in mind that projects you don't take might still be taken at a later point)
-Project Spartan was presented by the Alexandrians. Taking young adults (from 16 to 20 years old) and using gene engineering and chemical treatments, you were to create the best possible soldiers, a small team able to take down any enemy on small scale covert operations.
-Project Metatron was presented by the Unitarians. This project consisted on creating special combat armors that would allow any normal human to increase his combat abilities several times.
-Project Hal was presented by the Gatherers. The project is based on the creation of robots and mechanized vehicles able to field enormous amounts of firepower with the minimal human cost.

I would ask why fire can burn two men to death without getting hot enough to burn a book, but then I read "INEXTINGUISHABLE RUNNING KAMIKAZE RADIOACTIVE FLAMING ZOMBIE" and realized that logic, reason, and physics are all occupied with crying in the corner right now.

The Alexandrians weren't exactly happy when you were chosen, and much less when Project Hal was chosen, but at least this gave your new organization access to a lot of technology of the gatherers.

The coalition has interests in Mars. The planet is still rich in various mineral resources, but contact was lost during the war. If you send an exploration team within the month and get positive results, you can claim any rediscovered piece of technology on Mars' surface.

Have the pilot train 10 untrained security guards

Have 5 aerospace Engineers and 10 robotic engineers research and create drones capable of flying to different planets. The project is led by Dr. Andre Charpenteire

....Why the crap would we have the pilot train the sec guards? Two completely different jobs. -1.

I'm fine with the drone one, however the drones should be capable of being armed.

Why the crap do we have a mech suit? Realistically they will fall to pieces at the first shot.

Begin research on a corvette chassis.

I'd get Andre and Frank working on getting the mecha prototype equipped with combat ready weapons and armor, and extensively tested.

Send Juan to the Alexandrians, have him use his persuasion skills to try and smooth things over a bit. As proof that they will have some say in your opperations, allow them to pick a leader for the planned Mars expedition from among their ranks. [Not frank of course, we need him for testing the mech prototype] If the Alexandrians refuse to provide an officer, send him to ask the Unitarians instead.

Prepare the mars trip with all 20 Soldiers, Half the Security Staff, 2 Medics, 10 Lab Techs, and 5 Maintenance. If we cannot get the Alexandrians or Unitarians to provide a leader, head it up ourselves.

The Alexandrians are quite happy to provide with a leader for the expedetion, although it is clear they expect the Committee to return the favor at some point. The man sent, Colonel Yuri Vershinin, is a war veteran, his left arm and leg replaced with bionic implants.

As he arrives to the space station, the team is sent.

During the two days of waiting until the team gets to Mars, your attention is focused on the labs. The engineers search the Gatherer's database looking for something that could help them, and they actually find something. Apparently, before the war, spaceships had drones similar to your specifications, able to navigate solar systems in search for data, although they had to come back to their mothership for FTL travel.

The drones you have are the Gatherer's finest, and yet they are quite far from that. For Dr Charpentier says that they might be able to build drones with limited space flight capabilities (enough to exit and enter a planet) so that they can be sent from ships on orbit, but unless you discover something really interesting on Mars, drones able to fly from planet to planet will still be a dream for a long time.

It's not long before you recieve a communication from the Mars team.
"Here's Colonel Vershinin. Goods new is that there were a lot of labs and shipyards on Mars, so there are a lot of useful things here. One of the lab techs says we might be able to find a FTL engine in working conditions. Bad news is that whatever the guys here were developing prior to the lost of contact, it is not friendly. The medics say it might be useful, though. Apparently they are some sort of... Living metal alien organism. That's their words."
