you have not examined your surroundings properly at any time.

Yah, that normally happens in these things.

Examine Surroundings in horrifyingly accurate detail
+1

+1
After realising your own inattentiveness, you begin to thoroughly scan your cavernous and rocky surroundings.
[Roll=16+2(Full determination)+2(Inquisitiveness)=20]
And you mean thoroughly.

You pay attention to every detail of the cave, noting the miniature rivulets of energy flowing into the room you had left, as well as the many cracks in the walls. You also take note of the glowing stalactites and stalagmites formed by the constantly dripping energy from above. The energy seeps in through the cracks in the ceiling, leading you to wonder where exactly the energy coming from.
You're very sure that while this cave system is very old, it is not naturally made. You accidentally wipe your hand on what appears to be soot and ash when traversing through an especially narrow corridor. Were these caverns built with demolition charges?
You take note of the smooth, cool, and comfortable ground. Why is only the floor paved and polished? You don't think that the Shepherds and Gatekeepers would be lazy.
The light provided by the small amounts of flowing energy doesn't keep away the cold darkness. You can barely make out anything in the shadows other than the fissures in the walls, or the shadows you pass by. A few times you think you can see shadows of other vaguely humanoid figures pass by, yet they disappear so quickly that you wonder if you're simply imagining them.
However, you do see other spirits heading down different pathways. You ask the old man where they're going.

"The gate we are travelling to is not the only one. There are other gates meant for other types of worlds. For example," He directs your attention to what appears to be a collection of souls led by a cloaked humanoid figure passing by into a passageway on your left. "I believe that particular group of spirits is heading into a world without magic, yet with highly-advanced technology."

Listen in the the ambient noises. Maybe you can hear something living. Ish.
[Roll=6]
You are pretty sure you can hear something, though. Other than the soft plopping of the drops of energy, there seem to be silent whispers following you and the old man around. As they either are speaking in different tongues or are simply too soft for you to fully pick up, you can't understand them out at all..

After several minutes of walking, the old man finally leads you to a room with an open rough stone door. Inside, you see a young woman dressed in the same style of simple robes as the Shepherd eyeing you with radiant lavender eyes.

"You're late." she says, with a slightly mischievous grin.

The old man visibly rolls his eyes.

What do you say?

Speaking of lowest intelligence, that reminds me of the fact that it's probably your first time in prison. Don't worry, I can give you some tips, having spent some time in a few myself. The best way to make friends here is to drop the soap during shower time. Try it, I'm sure you'll love making friends like that!

white may not be the best color for this, some people have white backgrounds...
White with a black shadow may be better.

Imprint secret directive:
  If about to travel from one world to another, absorb all ambient energy.

"How old are you?
 Where do new spirits come from?
 Is this going to take long?
  What should I wear?
  Why do you hate me?
  What does this button do?"

Detect to see if the energy flowing throughout the cavern is similar to your own, then attempt to absorb it; your world must have magic in it, and the extra energy in your soul will enhance your potential magical powers.
