Dragonkin: New race suggestion
« on: October 11, 2014, 11:45:15 pm »

I did a cursory search to make sure no one has proposed a similar race and didn't find anything so here goes:

Dragonkin! Slightly larger than the average human and equipped with natural weapons such as razor sharp claws and powerful jaws and their scale armor is as hard as copper. Dragonkin live for hundreds and hundreds of years and are resistant to most diseases.

Their major failings are in learning new skills, lack of wings and firebreath inherited from their greater Dragonkin cousins and are predisposed to a hoarding mentality, leading to many failed tradings with outside groups.

I suggest a 'Neutral-Good' approach to their play with reduced skill increases by as much as 1/8th or more to offset their powerful natural abilities. Its not so much as being incapable of learning new things, its a lack of interest mostly. They're descended from dragons and feel that they are above the base instincts of lesser humanoids. 'Pompous' comes to mind.

I've got a question about how to change up their play a bit more; One is if we can give them larger penalties for lack of finery and 'meager quarters', leading to a risk if you don't please them quickly with quality goods and large, well furnished quarters (which consequently is already more difficult to attain as they don't care for manual labor and are slow to gain skill)

If this sounds completely stupid to anyone thats cool, but let me know what you think. I tried once upon a time to make my own races, mostly got it down but i've lost years of experience and time and seeing as how these other fantastic races are already here I thought a more experienced modder might be able to pick this up pretty quickly and throw it together

My Draconic Soul is basically what you are asking for, except without the copper scales.

I'm fine with having it used for Masterwork. It also includes a mountain dragon, a smaller, flying cave dragon, and a venemous dragon, a stinging, biting, spitting venom tank, found in savage, evil deserts. And Burning Steel, a steel made from cave, normal, mountain, or venemous dragon bones mixed with fuel, flux, and steel. As good as the divine metals, but available in fort mode. Go to a mountain, catch a breeding pair of mountain dragons, and bam, burning steel production is a go.

A suggestion that I don't know if it's possible or not.  If the Dragonkin are exothermic would it be possible to have alteration in performance of individuals based on different conditions.  For example they would move faster during Spring and fastest during Summer but then slower and slowest in Fall and Winter?  Could weather have an effect on them where being caught in a snowstorm would reduce stats for some duration?  Or even cave adaption where it is too cold underground to be 100% effective, unless you code in the illumination objects like fireplace and brazier have an effect on them that boosts them to normal or above speed.  Maybe even a custom building made from a magma workshop that gives off "heat" in the form of autotargeting reactions for dragonkin to boost them even more.

Again no idea if this is possible.  But it could use targeting syndromes close to the pylons of warlocks and a custom cave adaption script for the race.
