The ability to update your world without playing adventure or fortress mode

Simple, you can update the world and have history go on without having to play the game itself.

Centration. Similar to Spacestation 13, but in 3D and first-person. Sounds damn awesome.

I believe it's been a planned thing and Toady One has mentioned about letting post worldgen runs go longer without entering fort mode or adventure mode.
