: "I mean, if that's the way you want to do it I ain't gonna argue. You'll have to take something of mine though...maybe these knives? You remember how to throw them? If not I've got this cheap beginner sword you can use."

: Yeah, I still remember. I probably won't be able to scratch the paint off a knight's boot with it but it might prove useful.

Harold gave the bluish blade back to his brother.

: Now that we've got a bit of breathing room, say, do you have anything in mind to do after this is over?

[Sirus]

Harlan lowered his voice, keeping the conversation private between him and Harold.

: "We're invading the single most militarily-powerful nation in the world with what could generously be called a small army. To be perfectly honest, I'm not giving us more than a 15% chance of survival, let alone victory in any sense.

"On the off chance we do get out of this in one piece? I'm thinking of going east, as far away from Ixion as I can get. Maybe settling down in a nice seaside cottage and spending the rest of my days lounging around. Thinking I deserved a bit of retirement after all this.

"What about you? Thinking about settling down, perhaps?"

: To be honest, Harold lowered his voice further. I was thinking about asking Senija out. About the same chance of success. Other than that, I'm not too sure.

Harold thought for a second or so.

: You know, it's not too late to turn back if you want to. I bet we could sneak back to- Ah, what the hell. We're neck deep in this already so might as well see it through.

[Sirus]

Harlan chortled, both at Harold's realistic attitude and his determination to see things through.

: "Totally agreed on both points. But hey, maybe if we score here you'll be able to score later."

[Solymr]

Harold shrugged.

: I totally destroyed that wyvern commander that brought Tomik but that might not have been the best way to prove my mettle.

[Sirus]

: "You've been doing fine, bro. Just ask her out when this is over. I'm sure that Senija's seen plenty of what you can do on the battlefield, assuming that's something she takes into account when it comes to men."

[Solymr]

: I could also ask her before. If things go bad and we die I might as well die disappointed. Harold chuckled a bit. What about you? I think you mentioned something about that in the desert but... a lot has happened since that.

[Sirus]

The rogue snorted.

: "What, dating prospects? Nah, there's nothing. I made it pretty clear in the beginning that not only was I a bad guy, but I also wouldn't be around for very long. Hardly good romantic material.

"It isn't so bad. They - well, most of them, anyway - are polite to me, and I'm as polite as I can be right back. It's better than nothing."

[Solymr]

: I don't think we're giving them enough credit. After what we've been through, what YOU've been through, we're really lucky to have found people so reliable. No matter what they say, slum gangs aren't cool, and after getting framed by that mask guy I kinda need some time before I trust the jobs back there.
