Elsid wasn't going to let himself get smacked just like that and dodged the hatchet.

Quote from: Kyle vs Elsid Barret
Kyle attacks!
Hit: 146-15-61=70. Roll: 88. Miss!

Enemy Phase

: You think I'm just going to keel over and die, boy? I'm not gonna go out without a fight! Elsid charged at Kyle and crossed his sword with the hatchet, struggling too close to the edge.

Elsid Barret moves to G3.
Quote from: Elsid Barret vs Kyle
Elsid Barret attacks!
Hit: 128+15-64=79. Roll: 95. Miss!

Kyle counterattacks!
Hit: 146-15-61=70. Roll: 98. Miss!

Allied Phase

: Kyle! Haibach in turn charged Elsid and the two scuffled as well.

Captain Haibach moves to G4.
Quote from: Captain Haibach vs Elsid Barret
Captain Haibach attacks!
Hit: 108-15-61=32. Roll: 11. Hit!
Crit: 15-13=2. Roll: 33.
Elsid Barret takes 36-1-13=22 damage!

Elsid Barret counterattacks!
Hit: 128+15-52=91. Roll: 89. Hit!
Crit: 12-6=6. Roll: 18.
Captain Haibach takes 38+1-12=27 damage!

The struggle ends when the cliff gives way due to the fight and the three men slip off the edge! Fortunately Kyle can hold on to the edge, with Haibach and Elsid hanging on him. But even Kyle can't pull up his own weight and the weight of two burly men.

"... Barret! I WANT YOU TO KNOW, YOU'RE A FUCKING BASTARD!"
The burly man tries pulling himself up but stops as he realizes the futility. Yeah this isn't a great situation.

Elsid said nothing and just held on. But Haibach had a different idea.

: Kyle, Lunaria's favors require a sacrifice. You know that saying, before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves? Well, I'm filling in for ya, buddy! Farewell!

Haibach let go of Kyle as he punched Elsid in the face and grabbed onto him, making him let go as well. The two sailors tangled in midair as they fell and made a big splash when they reached the water. Now Kyle was free to pull himself up.

"Cap-CAPTAIN!"
Kyle quickly pulls himself up and turns to look back into the water, just in time to see the splash. He punches the ground in anger as he watches for movement, but eventually sighs and stands. He wouldn't throw away his shot. He takes a breath and starts walking away, it'd be a long trip to Kizamo after all... He pauses and steps into a tavern, a drink and a toast to a friend before the trip couldn't hurt.

Both sailors were lost at sea, but Kyle was still alive. After one last drink in honor of the friend that took him in his ship, Kyle set out, with his past put to rest and a chance to shape his future.

~~~~Epilogue F: Improbable~~~~
Not three months had passed since the last battle, when Catherine received a message from Nikolai asking for her help with a mishap.
Nikolai's message didn't specify it, but in the last months he'd been working on teleportation devices, so chances were it was related to that. After a bit of travel, Catherine arrived at Nikolai's home/lab, and he was standing in front of the door, waiting.
//Catherine Hirana is in!
"Nikolai?" Catherine asked as she approached. She hadn't been back in Kizamo for long at this point, having stayed with the others for a while and keeping watch on the Gate and... other things, which made her smile a bit. Back to the matter at hand. "It's good to see you. What was it you needed help with? It sounded urgent, but the message was rather vague."
Nikolai jumped.
: Oh! Hi there Catherine, glad you came. Nikolai looked around for a bit before continuing. So I was working on a teleportation engine that could allow a ship to move anywhere. I call it the Improbability Drive! But I must have had some calculation wrong because when I tested it well... it all became very weird. Now I need you to go in there and turn it off before it turns everything into a mess!
Catherine raised an eyebrow. "Seems interesting, to be sure, but why can't you do it?" she asked, "You're as strong a mage as I am, or stronger, last that I checked."
: Well uh... Nikolai fidgeted. The *ahem* lab seems to not want me in there anymore. The... door smacked me.
The eyebrow went higher.
"That does sound like it would make it difficult. I'll help, of course. I owe you that much for everything a few months ago." she took a tome out of her bag. "Good that I brought these, then... Say, you wouldn't mind letting me finally see some notes on your airship designs after this? I've been curious since I was on one the first time."
: Of course! Of course, anything if you manage to fix this mess of mine, I'll be in *your* debt.
Catherine went through the door, but after she was inside something happened. She looked back and there was no door anymore, she'd catched a glimpse of it sliding across the wall until it hid behind a corner.
And in front of her another door and the remains of Nikolai's glass equipment came to life in vaguely humanoid shape.
"...Well then, this will be a test, it seems." She brought out one particular tome she'd been meaning to test. She'd tried a lightning equivalent, but it wasn't quite the same. "This... should work indoors."
