:"H-huh? Oh, uh, yeah... Tomik and I worked as mercenaries for Ixion for a while after we left Dargas... uh, it's related to how we got into prison, actually..."

:"I... dunno, honestly... it's not like I'm afraid of fighting, but, I think I'd rather stay with or I guess at least near the people I care about rather than go back to that. W-well, if we find Tomik in time..."

"Thank you!" Laura then moved a step closer and...

"You're the best, Albert."

"Oh, we- ah!" And Albert, like his nickname namesake, lit up.
"Its nothing... Nothing much. Thanks. Glad you like it." Albert stared forward, somewhat keenly aware of Ketsuki's raised eyebrow.

An indeterminate amount of time later, the generals started coming out of the meeting. While most of them passed the group, Micheal and Nikolai stayed with them.

: Lillian, I think we can talk now.

: And I at least have a job to do.

: First, we found the traitor. One of the guards had what Sir Nikolai calls a "beacon", which would have allowed them to teleport here. That guard was found dead, but there will be an investigation of his connections.

: Next! I have to return to Veyriden immediately and give a message to Phineas and the rest. We will help cut off any possible reinforcements and siege Auroch back. We'll basically have their backs while Alberal's forces pull out their attack.

: I should have said that before. After some thinking, we have considered that the only way we can stop Ixion from opening the Waygate is essentially rushing to storm the capital and force the king to stop the war and the Waygate. There's no way we can make it in time through land, as Ixion's iron defenses would take too much time or even be impossible to pass. That's why we are sending most of the troops available to the coast of Ennar, and from that point on have our forces march to the capital of Ixion. It's a desperate plan, really... But there seems to be no other choice. The Archbishop said you were up to fighting more against Ixion, and since you're here already you would be one of the first to disembark, so you would have to help clear the coast for the rest. What do you say?

"Fair enough... Wait, did they say landing?"
Kyle looks at the generals intently.

: There was another mage with you when you came back, right? I think he had some knowledge of it too but then got taken away before we got on the airship to get here.
"That's true - I almost forgot. Seems like I'll have the more complete perspective, though, seeing as he hopped off before us. I still wonder how he did that summoning thing..."

Of course, Twin is neither man nor woman but an unholy eldritch abomination like every other Bay12er. The difference is they hide it better.

"I... don't know. I want to say yes; I've been involved in this from the beginning and it's my duty as a Rose to see this through, but..."

"Well, we lost one of our number. Tomik got teleported away by the enemy leader's emergency escape plan, and we don't know where he is... except he's probably among Ixion's forces right now."

"I just... finding him is my first concern. You understand, right?"

: Alright. When you're ready, come to the port. I'll be waiting there.

: I'll be going to the airship now so I guess this is farewell. Take care!

Nikolai waved to the rest and they both parted ways, one to the city's port, and another to the airship port.

: It's got something to do with dark magic, some sort of contract with the dead and spirits. I don't know much more, and I heard Kizamo and specially Nikolai don't like that kind of magic. What about your spells from thin air? I've seen Lillian do it most of the time, but I think I recall you too using magic without a tome.

The three reached an armory specialized in lances. Harold stared at a particularly vicious looking one.

"It's hard to explain. If I had to, I'd say it's somewhat like using a tome - except instead of drawing from a tome, you draw from yourself. Which is why we tend to need some healing after using it."
