If Laura were an internet browser, she would have spinning icon over her head right now.

But she wasn't software at all, so instead she just blinked few times.

Lilly was also quiet, so it was just a few moments of two brunettes awkwardly trying to avoid looking at each other.

"So, uh... not really. No one else in the group. Nope. And I guess you didn't have any guard guys in your life, either. So... yeah."

She idly laced her fingers together and looked at the ground. For at least two minutes.

"Well... if you don't like the stuff I normally play, what kind of music do you like, then?"

[Haspen]

"Well there was that one guy who you guys murdered on the way out... seems it was so long ago."

"And the others before him are, err, better forgotten. As for the music... to be honest, one person cannot play such. It needs a whole band. Ceremonial music, you know?"

[SeriousConcentrate]

"Mmm. I see. Ah, well."

Lilly was officially out of ideas for what to talk about with Laura and shrugged at the guardswoman.

[Haspen]

Laura twiddled her thumbs for a moment before she got a terrible idea.

"So what's your brother's name and how old is he?"

[SeriousConcentrate]

"I'm going to guess you mean my younger brother since my older brother's been married for like twelve years. He's John Rose, Jr. He's, um..."

Lilly thought for a moment.

"Mmm. I'd guess he's still eighteen... I don't THINK it's been his birthday yet, but on the other hand I'm still not entirely sure what day it is. Kinda lost time in Stronbahn and never really caught up to the calendar after that."

[Haspen]

_"Perfect..." Then an independent thought struck Laura across conscience and then there was sadness.

"...I wish I had any information on any of my siblings, and my father... and mom."

[GiglameshDespair]

"He will be new to combat magic. Something low level, perhaps."

[SeriousConcentrate]

Lilly sighed in commiseration. That sentiment was something she could understand.

"Yeah, right? I mean, outcast and all, but I still wanna know how my own family is doing. The last I heard my hometown was under siege, so... Can't help but be a little worried, y'know?"

[Sirus]

"... Personally I like that first one. Anyways, I figure you would have found one of them that you liked. What about you Harlan?"

: "Well, it's not a topic I've put a lot of thought into, obviously. Even if impending demise weren't a factor, the women in this group don't generally treat me with anything more than professional courtesy. Can't imagine why." The last sentence came out so dry it made the nearby desert look like a swamp.

"Come on Harlan, you may be dying, but at least you aren't ugly. I'm sure you can get plenty of women with those two things."

[Sirus]

: "The knowledge that I've committed more crimes than you could probably name tends to give even the most madly head-over-heels airheaded girl - which doesn't describe anyone we know, may I remind you - some pause. Honestly it's probably a good thing I've been so useful, otherwise they'd probably have politely-yet-firmly asked me to leave...rugged looks and all."

Kyle gives Harlan a flat look. He may recall something about him being part of a profession the periodically pillages, murders, and is otherwise more unpleasant than most things one can thing of. Unless of course he could find something to top that.

[Sirus]

Harlan just scoffed.

: "Oh right. The big bad pirate, raping and pillaging and burning. The perfect storm of crime and villainy."

: "Make no mistake, Kyle. You and your fellows are blunt instruments; efficient enough at breaking things and making a great deal of noise, but not really suited for anything other than basic smash-and-grabs. For everything else, there's people like me." The thief began counting off on his fingers. "Burglary. Robbery. Home invasion. Bank heists. Arson. Cons. Assault and battery. Cutting purses. Cutting throats. Intimidation. Extortion. Bribery. Horse thieving. Destroying evidence. Even the occasional bit of highway banditry if we knew of something particularly valuable to be moved. I knowingly passed and used counterfeited money, though I had nothing to do with the counterfeiting itself. Just about anything to earn a living."
