Mason hadn't even had time to react as the party worked on the thing. After it was done, he slowly stepped forward.

: Well, you don't seem to have a reason to fear. No reason for me to fear either.

Mason followed the party through the Waygate.

It was bright, then brighter, then darkness.

The party was somewhere else now. They were in a small flat area surrounded by mountains, and everything looked... normal. It was a moonless night, but there was light coming from a nearby bonfire.

There were a number of people, hooded and covered, around the Waygate. They had been chanting and doing ritual work until the party crossed the gate, which made them all shut up and stare at them, especially at Asher.

They remained in silence for a few seconds, unmoving, until two of them started whispering between themselves, unsure what to do. Then one of them took a step forward and adressed the party.

*ahem* You are... under our control now...?

He seemed hesitant about what to say, so Mason took matters into his own hands and started the introductions.

: Fuck off.

Or not.

At this answer, the hooded group started slowly panicking until they were in full retreat mode, shouting between themselves.

Shit, something's wrong!

Back to the boss!

This wasn't supposed to happen like this!

They all vacated the area quickly, leaving the remains of their camp behind. Suddenly, the party felt as if they hadn't slept in a thousand years.

"Well, that doesn't bode well. We're probably going to have to deal with this 'boss' soon."

The bard sighed and started moving about the camp, looking to see what the hooded figures had left behind.

Catherine yawns.

"...This is so... *yawn* a trap or something... adrenaline wouldn't wear off so... suddenly."

Of course, Twin is neither man nor woman but an unholy eldritch abomination like every other Bay12er. The difference is they hide it better.

Ketsuki shouted after the running figures.
"Don't run, you cowards, stay and die!"

Finally, she growled in frustration and stalked to the edge of the camp to sit down.

Laura looked at Catherine, herself feeling indeed a little sleepy.

"...or maybe we did... we were fighting for longer than we thought... or something."

There were still a few food rations untouched around, and some papers with illegible scribblings.

: *yawn* Maybe you're not taking into account that we basically escaped hell, you could call that exhausting. Also don't yawn so hard, you're making me *yawwwwn* too.

Mason took a burning branch from the bonfire and looked arouns for a bit.

: We should get a move on before *yawn* they come back. We need to find a safe place to sleep away from their path. A night so dark, they won't be able to see far.

As Asher got his bearings he enjoyed the normalcy of the world he knew, even if the other held great opportunity for his studies. He became self-conscious when he felt the collective eyes of the cultists on him, wondering why he seemed so interesting. Then they spoke and it all came flooding back to him. He recalled how he'd been lead to the gate under the pretext of needing his expertise. He realized now that he'd helped open the gate. And after all that they threw him in after they had established that the gate was open; how very rude. At least he hadn't been thrown in with the swordsman the group had fought. He felt dizzy and sat down.

Travel between worlds is rather exhausting," he adressed Catherine.

Tomik slowly sank to the ground, barely keeping a grip on his lance.

"Ugh... Something. Maybe... magic?"

"I apologize for the pessimism, but with our recent luck... Regardless, this is..." she covers her mouth before she yawns again. "Not the place to sleep."

Ketsuki swayed slightly as she stalked back.
"We shouldn't stay, no. We need to go after them. We can't let them get away."

Lilly was tired too, but she grabbed Tomik's upper arm and pulled, trying to get him to his feet.

"Come on, Mason is right. We have to get at least a little further than this before we drop."

Catherine glances down at Harlan.

"Someone help me... pick him up, please." she says, before trying to pick him up. She considers stuffing him in his own bag- she'd seen that magic item he'd had and had an idea of what it did-, but that would likely cut him off from... well, breathing.

As Mason was around weaving the torch, the group could hear some growling and the sound of a winged beast taking off, followed by another one.

A few seconds later, Modra and Ranzen descended in front of their owners.
