Lamden looked to the side at everyone else, before nodding at the guard and entering.

Kyle sighs.
"And I forgot to bring my good clothes."
He says sarcastically.

The party entered the church and the guard closed the door behind them. The inside or the main nave was simple, with just a few benches for people to sit down. The doors to the side rooms were closed. The group with Lamden at the head passed the altar and entered the room behind, where Lord Luso was waiting with Lady Anne-Laude to his side.

: Welcome back, Sir Lamden. It is truly a great sight to see you back alive.

Lamden didn't waste any time kneeling when he was in a respectable distance and performing a small gesture of prayer with his good arm.
: "Surpassed by the sight of Auroch still so strong after all this time, Milord Luso."

Lord Luso managed a small chuckle.

: Indeed, Auroch stays strong, especially thanks to you saving the life of my successor. But we're facing a time of hardship. As you probably know, Ixion has declared war and is making a strong push towards our city. I'm waiting for the return of my son, Sir Lysander, from a scouting mission to discern the full extent of the attack.

: But in any case, I would like to hear your report, how you survived the encounter with Ixion and met with these people who helped you return safely... And about this curse the Lady has told me that you're suffering.

Laura let out a sigh and crossed her arms. She wasn't gonna say a word.

The cavalier nodded.
: "Aye, milord."
: "As you no doubt know, I was apprehended on the border. They had attempted a number of interrogation techniques against me, mostly involving heretic magics after discovering my resistance to conventional methods. They included some experiments, such as the one now plaguing my arm."
: "Seeing their progress stalled, I was due to be shipped to Strobahn for additional interrogation. However, at that time, I was shipped along with a peculiar lad by the name of 'Mason'."
: "...This lad claimed to be among the prophets, and given his magical aptitude with light and foresight in how to escape the prison, I have little reason to doubt. With his and these good men and women's assistance, we commandeered the ship carrying us and fled back to the mainland."

Kyle raises his hand.
"Actually, I joined after that when my ship went to wait out a storm in a town and happened to get in a fight with the people pursuing these guys. I'm just a pirate. Er... I was a pirate. Now I don't know what I am."

Lord Luso frowned at the mention of the magics, but was surprised at the last sentence.

: He staged an escape from Strohnban? I have to say it's impressive, but it also means these people were branded as criminals by Ixion... But given their recent attitude, I doubt their judgement is fair. What happened to this "Mason" fellow?

Lord Luso just raised his eyebrow at Kyle's interjection.

Laura was going to raise an objection, but then remembered the Ixionese military law which meant that the old man was technically right.

So she just stayed silent.

: "His helping us was not purely of simple goodwill, admittedly. Last I know, he needed to reach the Waygate, within the Saxum Belt. By helping us, he wanted us to create a stir and draw Ixion's search away from him as he headed there."
: "In such a large group, including a few locals such as our former-pirate here-" Lamden angled his head towards Kyle, "-we were capable of fending off Ixion's attempts to recapture us as we made our way into Kizamo. When there, we... encountered a few peculiarities." Lamden glanced back at Tomik, then Lillian for a moment.

: Hmm... Smart plan, if it wasn't so suicidal. His hastiness worries me though, it could mean that soon we could have bigger problems than a war. Tell me how you managed to cross the Kizamo desert safely, and these peculiarities that happened.

Tomik frowned at the mention of the peculiarities, knowing that Lamden was talking about the masked man. But still. He didn't want to interrupt Lamden. It seemed the man really only cared about what he was saying after all.

Lillian stayed quiet as well, nervously fiddling with her wristbands.

Lamden made a short sigh, turning his gaze away from the two and continued with his account.
: "We had received assistance from a few locals of Kizamo in crossing the desert in exchange for escort. When crossing, however, we were accosted by a particularly dangerous... vagrant in a mask. Most regrettably, he had managed to place us in a gambit that had forced us to locate an artifact within the deserts at his behest."
: "Milord, this figure was referred to as the 'Twilight Walker'. I have reason to believe he has a history within Alberal."
