Lamden nodded at the guards and soldiers training, and quietly moved past them to the Barracks storehouse.
: "Ah, here we are."
Walking up to the doors leading in, he attempted to push it open. Perhaps, he hoped, he could find his old armor still sitting in its chest, if not, at least one of his holy icons.

Unfortunately for Lamden, none of his old belongings were in the storehouse.

However, outside of the building Lamden did notice that in a quiet place apart from the training grounds, there was a small memorial to Lamden's squad that was lost in the incident. His armor was set up there, among personal objects from the rest of Lamden's former companions.

Lilly turned and noticed Tomik... then Laura beside him. She glanced back at him, then looked to the ground. There wasn't really anything she could say to that since it had been her suggestion, but to be replaced that fast... Maybe she really hadn't been that important to him. It hurt, but she knew she shouldn't have gotten her hopes up in the first place. That was her own fault.

"I'm a bit tired right now. If you'll excuse me?"

And with that she walked over to a bench and sat, resting her forehead on the heels of her palms, her elbows on her knees, and closed her eyes.

Clonk Clonk Clonk.

"What's wrong?" Laura looked down at Lily.

Lilly looked up at Laura and very blatantly lied.

"Nothing. I think all the stress just caught up to me, you know?"

Kyle nods to Tomik. You know, the bro nod, not the stranger nod.
"Hey Tomik."

Laura thought for a moment.

"Load of bull, there's always something wrong when you make that kinda face. Is it about Tomik?"

Lilly sighed.

"Technically speaking, things have been 'wrong' ever since I got locked up on that island. I just want life to go back to normal."

"I'm sure you're not happy about any of this, either."

"Since you got locked up, huh." Laura thought a little about Tomik and the earlier conversation and the day it all started. She decided to omit the details she shared with Tomik.

"Yep. That's right."

"I thought so. Do you want to sit down too?"

Lilly scooted to her right, to give Laura room if she wanted to sit.

"How long were you..."

The bard trailed off, trying to think of the word. It took a few seconds before it came to her.

"...stationed in the prison, anyway?"

Laura just stood there, because Lily truly didn't know how hard and awkward it was to sit when you're fully armored.

"Uh, about four weeks? Longest of all my assignments."

"Mmm. Not as long as I was, but I honestly don't think you had it any better."

Lilly shrugged.

"I mean, you were still as much of a prisoner as we were. You had a bigger 'cell', yes, but you also had someone telling you what to do, where to go, when to do it..."

"I understand that you're not happy traveling with us because of your ties to your home, but... I hope it wasn't that bad."

"Mmttfftttfff..." Laura gnawed on her bottom lip for a brief second.

"Sorry, but if you want to live your crappy life traveling everywhere like a homeless vagrant across potentially scary and unknown lands and places, without any stable foundation or place to come back every night to rest, then I hate so say it but you are a weirdo. I rather like having a stated purpose in life rather having to find it on my own. In fact my very first assignment was my own choice because I stood up to the jerkass assignment clerk and told them all where I would like to be assigned."

"Well okay, every other assignment was being forced on me, but still..."

Lamden's eyes widened slightly on seeing the memorial at his feet.
: "...Oh."
Crouching down, he rested his good hand over his chest, closing his eyes for a good couple minutes before lifting his head up.
: "...Sorry, my friends. Seems I've still got to keep around for a while longer. There'll come a day I'll be back to join you. Until then, it is my honor carry on the duty you fell for. But for now-.." The cavalier reached down, pulled up and dusted off the pieces of his armor on the ground, "..-these don't belong here yet."

"I've tried the 'having a home' thing. If I'm not wanted anyway, then one town is as good as any other, as long as I have the freedom to go where I want and do what I want."

"I guess we just have two very different viewpoints."

"I... guess you don't have many options available to you, huh? About what to do once we're done with all this?"
