"It's all right, really. This hasn't been an easy time for any of us... especially those of us from Alberal and Ixion."

She knew Albert and Laura had ties, at least.

Lamden looked down.
: "No, that is precisely why. It falls to those capable to take up responsibility in such trials..."
The cavalier scratched the back of his head.
: "Ah, and... Speaking of- I am not sure if you were present at the time but, I have it on good word that Coriven continues to hold. Auroch will need to put its efforts towards breaking the latest offensive, but I plan on rallying men to break the siege on Coriven before long." Lamden paused and cleared his throat, "Er, responsibility, you see... I apologize again for the detour here."

"That's good."

Lilly looked down.

"You don't have to apologize to me for coming here, Lamden; you didn't do anything wrong. I understand. Our small group couldn't have done anything about a siege even if you all came with me. Besides, I haven't really done much but cause trouble for everyone. I'm the one who should be apologizing, for being stupid and selfish."

"I mean, we all make mistakes. Just some of us make worse and more of them than others."

"Anyway, you don't have to do anything on my behalf."

Harlan found Harold sitting on a bench near a road, watching people passing by with his backpack next to him looking about to burst. Harold waved to him when his brother walked into his line of sight.

: Hey there, big brother. Any news?
Harlan joined his brother on the bench. He needed a breather anyway.

: "Not much, little brother, and most of it not good. Sounds like Ixion's all over the place." He cast a glance at Harold's backpack.

: "What's all this?"

Harold opened his backpack and a few dark books spilled out.

: Remember that dark mage that joined us back there in Kizamo? He told me he was going back to Veyriden where it's safer, and gave me this stuff so it wouldn't weigh him down. Real shame, he was good at fighting. But I guess all this war stuff was too much.

Harold stuffed the books in the backpack again.

: Problem is, they're heavy. I see why these would weigh him down, I can barely carry them all. Can you give me a hand?

: "...why don't you just sell it? I don't think anyone else in the team can use this stuff, except maybe you."

: I was trying to, I stopped here to rest a bit because I'm still looking for a place to sell them.

: Say, what are you carrying around?

: "Let's see...sword, throwing knife...also this thing I stole from one of those knights we fought. Looks like it should be worth a decent amount of gold if I were to sell it."

Lamden slanted his mouth, clearly there was no out-humbling this girl.
: "As you wish." The cavalier nodded.
: "But if I may, do not sell yourself short. If anything, when the time comes I imagine you will be a most welcome sight, and your voice a most relieving sound to the besieged in Coriven."

Lilly almost managed a smile.

"That's a good joke. I'll remember it."

Lamden's mouth slanted further, defeated.
: "I must make rounds to the Auroch Guard's Barracks and Stables. Should anyone ask for me here, could you please relay that to them?"

Tomik and Laura reached the area where Lilly and Lamden were talking. Tomik froze and sighed. It's not like he was going to be able to avoid her forever anyways... He slowly moved to join Catherine with a nod, not especially feeling like joining in the current conversation.

"I will. See you when you get back, and stay safe. It might not be too safe for any of us to wander around alone."

She had been reminded of her abduction earlier and so it was on her mind. Since Tomik and Laura weren't approaching too closely, she didn't notice the pair behind her.

: "To you as well."
Lamden bowed as best as he could. On rising, his eyes seemed to flinch on noticing Laura and Tomik. He quickly nodded towards both of them before making his way towards the city Guard's barracks, waiting until he was out of earshot before quietly mumbling to himself.
: "...there's nothing for it, then."

: Hm, wouldn't that armored girl on your group have some use of it? Let's not sell it just yet. Do you have an idea of where we can sell the magic tomes though?

Lamden wandered to the eastern part of the city, where the barracks were located, conveniently near the main blacksmith of the town. There was a lot of activity in the area, guards and soldiers training, practicing and getting ready for the impending battle.
