"Well, I'd need to build a place to live. I'd have to learn how to farm as well. I'd also have to find a mountain. But other wise I think that's it."

"I'm sure you can apprentice yourself to a carpenter and a farmer for awhile. You're a strong guy; I'm sure it wouldn't take long for you to find work. And then once you learn the trades, you could... Actually, why do you need to find a mountain?"

Kyle shrugs.
"Seems like the kind of place that would make it easy to become perfect in body."

[SeriousConcentrate]

"Oh, like... 'testing yourself against the elements' kind of thing? I can see that. So what do you plan to do with your training when you finish it?"

[kj1225]

Kyle taps his chin.
"I... really haven't thought that far ahead. I guess if I could get to that point I'd settle down and raise a family."

[SeriousConcentrate]

"Ah, a simple life as a mountain man. Hunting animals, selling their pelts, and chopping down trees for firewood."

She sighed.

"It sounds a lot better than this war and everything. I wish you luck with it."

Unfortunately for Lilly, the few people that wandered around in the middle of a city expecting an attack weren't in a generous mood.
Meanwhile Tomik saw a few people in a nearby yard playing around with some rocks. Some of them wore military outfits but others were in a more neutral looking attire. One of them spotted Tomik and walked up to him.

Hoy there! You look like a strong young fella. Wanna try your hand in a contest of might?

"Well, I was hoping to earn a bit of gold..."

Harlan decides to hunt down information on how the war progresses and whether anyone's heard about the mysterious masked man.

Albert twisted his back a little, uncomfortable at how numb it felt.
  "Oh, that building we found you at.. Did she ever complain about the pain?

Well if you come up on top there's a prize for you! So whaddaya say? All you gotta do is lift some stones and if you lift more than the others you win!
Harlan found himself eavesdropping on a couple of guards talking about the situation.

...straight to Auroch.

Yeah, that's weird. They're just breezing through the land, they're barely stopping at any other cities. Hell, I heard they didn't even take Coriven, they're just preventing them from sending or receiving any help.

It's like they want to gamble all their attack on being able to take this city.

It would be a smart move if it weren't so stupid. If we were taken by surprise yeah, but there's just no way they would have gone undetected. We're more than ready now and with Lord Luso coordinating all the help we got, they won't get anything.

What if this is just a distraction?

Well, I heard rumors that Ixion's also pushing the southern front, and even that they plan on raiding Kizamo and steal their secrets to use them against us.

The first part I could believe, but the second one? Not a chance. Even if they found them by some fluke, I think those loony mages would rather take their thingamajigs to the grave.

The guards then went off on a tangent about Kizamo conspiracy theories and whatnot, but nothing about the masked man.

Seems reasonable enough. Lets do this."

[Solymr]

The man led Tomik to a part of the yard where a line of sequentially bigger stones were placed on the ground.

It's simple. You just gotta pick up the stone and lift it up to your shoulder. Then you can drop it. If you can't reach your shoulder and you drop it you're out. And here's the people you're going up against.

Two men came up, one slightly smaller than Tomik, the other slightly larger. They got in position to start the competition.

Ready?

[Swordstar]

Yeah, sure, lets just do this."

[Solymr]

The man gave the signal to start and people started lifting. The first few stones were easy enough, but the competitors were already reaching the heavy ones.

8 CON guy: 8+4. Pass
Tomik: Autopass
10 CON guy: Autopass

8 CON guy: 8+3. Pass
Tomik: 9+1. Fail
10 CON guy: Autopass

Tomik's strenght gave out sooner than he thought and dropped the stone. The rest of the people started cheering the other two guys.
