: I know these guys. They won't lift a finger to help or tip off the guards. And we need to get out of this town tomorrow since everyone will know we're on the run regardless.

[Swordstar]

Tomik wasn't exactly a big fan of the whole thing where they were just straight up telling people they were escapees, but he stayed quiet on the subject. No sense in causing an argument that could draw unwanted attention. So instead he sat down at one of the tables.

"A night of rest would be nice though. Wouldn't mind something to drink either..."

[Sirus]

Harlan eventually nodded.

: "Guess I'll take your word for it for now. We may be out of prison, but we haven't totally escaped yet. You at least seem to have some sort of plan."

[Solymr]

: Yeah, but to understand it I need to explain a few things first.

Mason leaned forward and talked a little bit softer.

: Have you guys heard about the prophets and the end of the world?

[Swordstar]

"Not much. Remember some of the other mercs mocking them. Calling them crazy and what not. But you clearly don't think so."

[Sirus]

: "Very little, and considering how much of what I heard was either in taverns or prison I doubt most of it was more than idle speculation."

[Khaiel]

"I know a bit. My father was... Quite interested on that subject. They don't like that kind of thing in Ixion. That's why I ended in prison."

[Solymr]

: Well I can confirm it's real. I'm one of those prophets, and I had a vision of the opening of the Waygate, but as soon as I opened my mouth about it I had the military on my ass. I tried to run away, but I got caught right before I could cross to Alberan.

[Sirus]

Harlan just nodded along. He'd been around enough crazy people to know that arguing with them was pointless, so he just let them speak.

[Solymr]

: Heh, I know that look. You think I'm nuts. I don't mind, but I know what I saw. The Waygate is deep in the mountains near to the capital, in the Saxum belt, and this time I'm going to investigate there myself.

[Swordstar]

"Well if it's mountains, Senija and I can help out there. We've lived in mountains for most of our lives and our wyverns let us bypass some of the places humans can't climb."

[Solymr]

: No way. You coming with me would be like walking straight into the wolf's mouth. I'm not asking you to follow me there. What I wanted you to do is... to act as a sort of decoy. I want you to flee the country and keep the military busy and focused on you instead of on me while I go deep.

[Swordstar]

"... So we're supposed to just run around letting guards chase us while you go and do your thing? Yeah, sounds like a great idea... But... I don't see a much better option. Ugh, I knew escaping was a bad idea."

[Sirus]

: "You must be joking. Why the hell should we do that? For that matter, why would the military care so much about us anyway?"

[Solymr]

: Think of it this way. Guards are gonna chase you anyways. You escaped their prison and put them to shame. All I'm asking you is to go the opposite direction of where I want to go. And I'm going to what it could very well mean my death if anything goes wrong, so I don't really see a reason why wouldn't you go the other way.

: Anyways, I'm tired. You can stay here and talk this over. I'm going to bed.

Mason got up and went to his room.
