What would happen if I appoint a locked-up vampire as hammerer?

Would he be depressed for not having a usable hammer?

He is wielding a silver short sword currently. Would he drop the sword because of uniform conflict?

if hes in an active squad he can't perform his hammerly duties, if you make the squad inactive he would pick up the hammer i assume, but if he has no access to victims criminals i don't think he'll do anything

I managed to create crimes by exporting some crowns. And he becomes tired! I have no idea whether this is purely coincidental.

Dwarves would be upset because of sentences not being carried out though.

You are right. The mayor is angry, but, many others, including the captain of guard, are "glad to have punishment delayed".

Vampires arent good hammerers though, they get double stats or something like that when they become vampires and if you have a very weak hammerer with a wooden hammer he will rarely kill someone.

Why even bother to appoint a hammer in the first place?

Hammerers don't equip a hammer like the military. They wait until a punishment job comes up and then they look for a free/available hammer, pick it up, and carry out justice. After that is done they return it to the stockpile or just drop if if there is no stockpile.

What if the hammerer is part of a military squad?

I think you should be able to add the hammerer to a military squad and use that to pick which hammer he will use like say a adamantine hammer if you don't want anyone to be killed by him.

Would just like to clarify that candy hammers are shit because of the weigth and therefore ideal to use on a hammerer.

Candy crossbows are even better as they don't train hammer skill at all but still get happily used for it, and you can even activate the hammerer to plink at things during a siege!

The vampire, as a bonecarver, is in blue. I want him to be in dark grey. Compared to training him into a metalsmith while safely confining him, I'd rather appoint him as the hammerer.

If the hammerer is in a squad he will still need a unused/available hammer to dispense justice with. The one you just assigned to his uniform will not be used. Also if the hammerer is in a squad, that squad must be inactive for him to even consider doing the beating "job".

The hammerer is the executioner of your fort and needs a fully running justice system in place to even work. You need a chain designated for justice, since the victim will be chained and then hammered. Think of this process as just another "job" in the fort. It isn't like the CotG squad delivering beatings.
