Because we can make it far better. Furthermore, it would mean that when we do jump into designing the medium suit, we have better materials, and more experienced teams to develop it to boot.

That and we get more soldiers that aren't dead.

I'd also rather have medium armor that is good in some role and light armor that is good in another, rather than using only medium armor cause the light armor is flawed.

I don't like the name for the AR.

I see it as more close ranged, like the Steyr AUG.

The Steyr AUG has sights on it for 450 meters. Other civil war rifles could fire for further.

I guess we'd have to find out by testing.  Or I'm reading this wrong.
I don't think we named it before your post..

The Steyr AUG is an assault rifle, it's by no means a close range weapon when it comes to small arms, though it's certainly a more effective urban weapon because of the compacted design.

AUG has an effective range of 300 meters, but it's maximum range is 2,700. And uh.. Infantry muskets were capped at less than 100 meters. So that's wrong.

Our rifle is a bullpup. What this means is that the magazine is located behind the trigger in the stock. The idea is that it increases the maneuverability of the weapon without sacrificing any accuracy because the weapon's barrel remains same length, more of this length is just concealed by the weapon's housing.

Our weapon is comparable to an AUG, but only because it's a bullpup. Chances are this weapon isn't going to have the exact same stats, especially since AUG isn't even the same caliber as our weapon.

They had rifles in the American civil war. :-\ A good example is the Spencer repeating rifle, which really did have an effective range of 500 yards. He isn't wrong in that respect, we *did* have rifles that where designed for longer ranges than the AUG during the civil war. We didn't have them widespread on either side,(The Spencers, I mean. Everyone had rifles) and I would definitely pick up an AUG myself if we where fighting at that range anyway, but he isn't completely wrong. In fact, most rifles at that time had an effective range of 500+ yards, though a maximum range of only 1000~ yards.

Our weapon is designed for close-fighting, the bullpup and the caliber show that. We had a small argument about this earlier.

Someone suggested some, and he is saying he didn't like those.

I am still voting for M2020 and IARM 1

Given that it makes any weapon that penetrates it more lethal, I'd say that's a rather big flaw.

As for names for the weapons:
Rifle: Orea
Pistol: Cyskanus

Our men will get shot while tryingin vain to prononuce those names....

Lets go with more military-sounding. We aren't marketing these guns, after all. M2020 Handgun (2020 for short. Sounds cool to me, at least.) and IARM1 (Imperial Assault Rifle Model 1).
I can pronounce it easily, I'm sure the troops can. Besides, M2020 and IARM1 sounds far, far worse so >.>

+1 to those. I can pronounce these without any trouble.

They sound totally cool and you know it! 8)

Besides, at least they mean something. Why name an assault rifle "Beautiful", "Tall", or "Air"? It is only one of those things.

And the pistol's name is just a bunch of letters put together :-\

Why must a name mean something at all? Why not just have a name for the sake of a name, an identity?

Why must a name mean something at all? Why not just have a name for the sake of a name, an identity?

Because it is easier to identify if the words given to it mean something? And if we are just giving it a name, then why not give one that is easy to pronounce and type?

I wouldn't name my kid Alkadfava just because I want to give him an identifier. We could at least put something that fits into the culture of our nation. It isn't like real weapons companies just hire a monkey with a keyboard to name things.

Compromise? What wizardry is this?

Well, the words will mean something: That particular model of rifle or pistol. I can support slapping on a Mk.1 or something after it, but that's mostly for any different versions (Such as an Mk.1A being an improved or different model than a basic Mk.1)
