And are you sure this was bogeymen and not night creatures , night creatures are historical figures and do not care if you have companions or not and will try to kill you and your allies at day or at night.

I had boogeymen attack when I was in one of those surface dwellings for dwarves. Asked the mayor for permission to stay too. Heh. Poor dwarves. And poor me. One bit my skull and chipped it. Gave in to pain. Rest is history.

Bogeymen can do it, if your companion leaves your LOS and goes to sleep.  Or if he passes out.

Be careful, even with a companion.  Bogeymen are your fears, says the best theory for them.
