Riegir grinned and wiped blood from his face as he rose.

"Heh. Better fighters than I thought. I'll have to remember them next time I'm looking for a scrap. Long as I've got you to bail me out, Captain."

Turning to the Orks, Riegir's smile drained from his face.
"I am glad to have been able to offer you some aid."

Skorri frowns, "Lass, when I come back wif 'scriptions of the lands, u'll be able to make me a decent map won't you? I plan on going scouting with my rangers 'ere in a 'inute, if you like you could come with so I don't 'ave ta 'scribe it ta ya." He motions towards were the rangers were camping. "We'll be oer thar."
He walks off to the area the rangers had gathered. "Lad's I need about tweny of ya for a scouting mission, orders from the top."

Scout the surrounding area with the rangers in standard scouting formation
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Wait a few minutes to see if Anni joins, if she does, she will stay with the center group as she maps the area, otherwise, make a description of the surroundings as I go.

"Indeed my lord, a good fight  is a dwarven thing. As long as its done in the right manner and circumstance 'course..."

Ardmir looks at the refugees and their leader dispassionately. To him they mean nothing, never did. As the Gate Guard, keeping the King's peace in the fortress and watch over the flow of incomers always meant that he was wary of outsiders. But it seems his prince had other ideas. He could only conform and learn for now. He did not protect Kraka Aevi from outsiders good enough, his ways had to be faulty. But old habits die hard....

Riegir
The Ork Woman approaches closer. Quite handsome for her race, she has a very rugged, untamed beauty about her. Immdeiately you shake off that thought and try and concentrate on what she has to say.

The woman points further north indicating several trails of black smoke rising form the norhtern part of the massive camp. As she points you notice her well-formed muscular arms and her...it takes great effort to not physically shake your head to get the thought out of your head.
[/i]

You've met Lanfear
Relationship with Orks of the Western Banner improved.

Ardmir

While you try to listen in on the Orkish garbling, you think you can make out common words but its still impossible for you to understand. also the blood seeping into your eyes from the gash running through most of your face makes concentrating harder...

The battle has caused a bleeding wound. While not serious you will have a malus on anythign that has to do with seeing or fighting.

Skorri
You set out with your rangers.
[3] Anni stays behind but is willing to make a map from your descriptions.
[Survival: 1+1] the endless sea of green soon swallows up the camp and after hours of walking all of you realize that you are hopelessly lost. You walk on for hours and hours until the sun begins to set.
[?] Finally you decide to make camp [Survival: 1+1] and find the way back tomorrow. You make a fire from a few brushes and settle yourselves for the night.

(eeck terrible rolls)

Ardmir only wipes the blood away and curses silently, beckoning one of the Gate Guards to help him with the wound.

"Reckon you won't see too much of our kind in the days to come. I'll leave it to my fellows if they want to keep on assisting, but I'm in."

Looking back over the Gate Guards, Riegar swiftly appraised his men, then spoke to them in dwarvish.

"If you still have confidence in your ability to cut down these foes, then theres still foes to cut down. Up axes!"

Lead the gate guards [And fellow PCs if they're in] north into battle again, staying together and fighting as a group so that we can watch each others backs.

At dawn, he orders the rangers to pack up and continue scouting, well, finding their way home.

Heirik cracked his knuckles as he listened to the orc speak. He had missed most of the fight, but it would not happen again - he nodded as the prince asked - asked, instead of commanding - whether they were up for a new battle.

"Where you go, I go, my Prince."

Follow Riegir into battle.

Ardmir was not fated to get any rest yet, with more fight on the horizon.

Get a quick binding of the wound on the head to stop the blood
Follow the prince and lead the Guard again.

Ardmir

[1] The Guard tries to clean out the wound quickly by burning it out but instead slips and makes the bleeding worse, you are lucky he didnt poke out an eye...

apologizing profusely the man quickly bandages the wound, however you feel a bit woozy now.

The Wound is now permanent until you find professional help

The Princes Retinue

You follow the Daughter-Heir through out the Refugee camp fighting for the better part of the day. Half the camp seems aflame and the other like killing grounds. Dead Orkish refugees lie next to Raiders many dying to those they have killed. [4] Your units fights well not losing a man in the five or six skirmishes you encounter. And as you prod on more and more orks join you. Every now and then you find lonely professional soldiers joining you and soony our number a good hundred fighters. It takes several hours of fighting, skirmishes and long walks till you finally reach the place were fighting is thickest: the supply wagons. As you arrive you immediately see the desperate situation. Whatever was left behind of the orkish soldiers had been to busy defending the vital supplies than to help the rest of their people. Tents in a great radius have been trampled or burned down and corpses of raiders and orks litter the ground, which has been churned up into wet muddy sludge by the constant fighting and made even more slick by the blood. The Orks with you immediately charge towards the wagons supporting the exhausted defenders, while you survey the situation for a moment longer before joining: about a hundred raiders are lef t in the vicinity, one of them bearing elaborate armor and a rather enormous glaive.

Having obviously considered all possibilities you decide for the best of tactics...you mindlessly charge the enemy.

[4 vs. 5+1] This time however the enemy is not so accomodating as to stare open mouthed and a bunch of angry dwarves coming his way. The Leader of the Raiders quickly screams some orders and a whole group of Tribesmen calmly awaits your charge. [3] of the Gate guards implae themselves on enemy spears in the charge. One of them however simply pushes the spear through himself and takes down the wielder and his two neighbours before collapsing.
[1 vs. 5] you desperatly try to evade another spear but find yourself impaled by the sword of the spearmans neighbour. [6] Screaming in agony, you cut off the mans hands and rip out the sword, turning towards the panicked spearman...

Ardmir
[5-1 vs. 6] You directly charge the man with the glaive who hits you with its blunt side on the side of the head, brushing you out of the way like an annoying mosquito. [6 vs. 2] quickly rising you turn back around to face the man who only has a condescending sneer on his face. [2 vs. 1+1] [Brute Force: 4+1 vs. 3] The sneer vanishes and is replaced with a strained grimace as you stop his next hit with your hammer and with the determination of a dwarf slowly push it aside. With a last effort you strike hsi glaive aside and smah your hammer into his exposed side. [Pen: 5+2 vs. 2+1] [Dam: 1+2 vs. 1] The wet sound of ribs breaking and impaling themselves into organs herald the fall of the tribeleader who falls to his knees. [Agi: 1 vs. 3] before you can crush his head with a finishing swing, he somehow manages to parry with his glaives his face a pained grimace of exertion. [3 vs. 4+1] [Pen: 3+2 vs. 3] His desperate counter stroke however feels more like a light caress.
[5 vs. 2] before he can rise again you bring the hammer down hard on his helmet [Pen: 6+2 vs. 3+1][Dam: 4+2 vs. 3] and end his life immediately.

Heirik
[2+1 vs. 1]This time you certainly are not the last in the battle, hewing left and right you take down two tribesmen before they even know what hit them and in the process barely avoid being impaled on a spear. you find yourself facing three enemies at the same time. one suddenly goes down as a screaming Ork-Princess starts stabbing his face into an unrecognizable mess. [Agi: 3+1 vs. 1] As the other two stare gaping you charge them and open the belly of the one closer to you before turning to the third tribesman who bares his talwar (a curved sword) in a rather flamboyant way.
[4+1 vs. 1] releasing an amused snort you give him a scenic view of his entrails before moving on to the next target.

with the reinforcements now engaged in battle the orks guarding the wagons join the melee which turns exceedingly more brutal. [2 vs. 2] both forces seem evenly matched ( thanks to dwarven reinforcements and the quick loss of the tribesman leader) and soon you see the pitiful twenty survivors put on a brave retreat, running like hares. However your side had their own losses, [1] of the gate guards has been killed and another [1] so heavily injured that he will not fight for several months. [6] Heirik escaped the butchery completely unharmed but Ardmir [1,4,5] is found lying on his back, the tendons of his left foot cut. The prince himself is in an even worse state. [2] the Spear hit some bloodvessels and he is bleeding profusely. One of the Orks cautions against removing it for now but breaks it off to allow freedom of movement. The Rest of the Gate Guards is however unharmed although they frown at their prince throwing around his life so freely. Nonetheless you are the heroes of the day, having saved the supply train.

Relationship with the Orks of the Western Banner improved further
Relationship with the Tribesmen has dropped.
The Supply train has been saved
Ardmir has been heavily wounded, with his tendons cut he cannot walk...
Riegir has been heavily wounded, he cannot partake in further battles, if he does not recive thorough medical aid he will bleed out.

((adwarf and elfeater have to wait a bit longer since they are already a day ahead of the the maingroup...)

Ardmir could not walk off this time without having his wound tended. Badly was he cut, and his own men had to tend ot him and carry him while another one tended to his wounds, motioning for help from the orcish refugees.

"My lord, we are victorious", he said to the prince. "But we are...argh, cut and bled badly this time. We must rest. I hope that our 'friends' here will be gratious enough to let us stay with them. We saved their hides after all..."

Skorri

[?] At dawn you pack up and continue to march. Its almost evening when you finally see something on the horizon, as you come closer you are pretty sure that its not the camp...its far, faaar bigger.
Just before night breaks in you can make out what it is...a tower, a massive tower in the midst of those plains. Tiny dots are swirling around it like birds.

Volgar

you begin design on your half-automatic ballista. [1] The cylinder however turns out to be a problem, the arrows won't feed correctly into the system and the bowstrings need to be manually pulled back making the cylinder a futile idea. Maybe you should think on modifying the system a bit? [4] the idea of the bowstrings shows promise though, however you lose kinetic energy usually used for the shot to pulling back the string thus reducing range by nearly two-thirds...

Automatic Ballista design at 5%

"Hmm, the cylinder simply won't work. Perhaps ... yes, if I replace it with a hollow box above where the crossbow bolt is supposed to be .... dropping a bolt in place is surely more efficient, and perhaps its simplicity is an answer to the problem with range. If I changed the string designs to only assist in pulling each other back, and designed it for a single dwarf to constantly turn a wheel to pull the strings back the rest of the way .... it would make crews larger surely, but the gain in possible fire rate and range is to much to pass up."

Volgar mumbled to himself as he continued his work, sheets of paper lay scattered all across his desk thick with his scribblings, and mockups for numerous variations of the automatic crossbow. Of course he was beginning to see it would take far more work to make the crossbow an efficient design by itself, to be truly automatic he would need other designs in advance so he decided this would be its precursor, a holdover before he could manage the true thing. That phased him little of course, his work was engrossing, and calming. To create, and invent was the pinnacle of engineering and it made Volgar feel as if he was a god messing with the lives of mortals by giving to them items few had ever imagined ...

Change the loading method to a box suspended over where the bolts should go that drops them into place when a string is in place to fire, have it re-loadable by a slit at the top of the box where a loader can push in another bolt. Change the strings design slightly so that when they fire they only pull the other one back part of the way in order to conserve energy for the range of the shot. In place of the strings doing all the loading add a wheel for one of the crew to rotate that will pull the strings back, in combat it can be constantly rotated by a member of the crew replicating the autoreloading the strings achieved but at the cost of more manpower.
