Volgar mumbled to himself, listing off various items, numbers or new recruits, and funding they would need to rebuild the Engineer's Guild after the downfall of the dwaren race's beloved Kraka Aevi. However unlike the other dwarves who felt sorrow at the fall of Kraka Aevi, and the hundreds of thousands of their brothers and sisters who fell there he was filled with more sorrow at the loss of the machines and inventions it had held when the Utanlôk had come to devour their true Mountainhome. After losing so much advancement, and potential the dwarven race would take a long time to recover meaning the Engineer's Guild would no longer be able to produce experiments on a grand scale so readily. Then again perhaps this was also a chance, the Engineer's Guild had always held him back, they had stated that many of his experiments were to 'farfetched' or 'dangerous', but now ... now he could prove them all wrong!

With a smirk on his face Volgar left the tent as quietly as possible, and headed out into the camp with a determined look, and an idea beginning to form in his mind, for now he simply needed to find the remnants of the Engineer's Guild amongst the refugees. Freedom to experiment as he wished, at long last it was near at hand ...

Search through the refugee group for the remnants of the Engineer's Guild, and anyone with mechanical experience or talent that I can find before bringing them together in a single place for a meeting on the future of the Guild.

Skorri watches the lord leave, he pulls out his pipe and lights a smoke. He follows the lord walk for a bit waiting for him to be away from most of the other dwarves. He strides over and through a puff of smoke he addresses his king. "I don't mean ta alarm milord, but could you sp're a 'inute of yer time?"

Volgar

[3 -1 Last of the Dwarves] It is still dark when you start your search but it would take you an entire day to question all the dwarves. Your Quest is soul-crushing. Everywhere you turn you find famished, desperate people, mostly the old and the children and where you find a younger face it is usually that of a soldier. These days everyone able to still hold a weapon has ben drafted. But even among them there is not one belonging to the old Engineers Guild. At the end of the day you draw the conclusion of your questioning. You are the Last Dwarven Engineer of Kraka Aevi.

Volgar cursed, and muttered under his breath as he stalked through the camp towards his own tent, those damned fools from the Engineering Guild had went and got themselves killed in Kraka Aevi without a thought on how it would effect his future no doubt. In the end it did not matter though, not at all for it was the perfect situation for Volgar to found his own guild after all. Yes, just the perfect chance, and to start it all off he had to gain the King's backing first or he would never be able to acquire the resources and funding they'd need to start and run a new guild in its early days.

A gleam entered Volgar's eyes after those thoughts, it was the perfect time for him to begin work on that after all, previously it simply did not have much of a place in the dwarven kingdom, but with a refugee group on the move it was a perfect invention. It was a creation that could change the tactics of warfare itself if he could, but get it out to the world at large. Mumbling to himself, and laughing like a mad men between breaths Volgar entered his tent and set to work immediately.

Begin the design, and creation of blueprints for an Automatic Ballista. In place of manual reloading a cylinder of four ballista bolts is slotted into the gun, and rotated during the course of each shot to have the next shot ready right away. The ballista will utilize two bowstrings to effectively allow it to fire almost back to back shots both of which are pulled back in the process of the other string firing a bolt.

Riegir was certain that had he not spoken, his brother and the nobles would still have given him a hard time. Never was much welcome amongst court intrigues. Still, he spoke his peace and had something to accomplish for the good of his people. He nodded to both his brother and the nobles, adding in a small scowl for those parasitic layabouts.

Stepping away from the meeting he was lost in thought when the Ranger approached him.
"Hmm? Yes? Terribly sorry my mind was elsewhere. What is it?"

Skorri  bowed to lord before addressing him further."Well Mi'lord, it seems to me you have a simple problem of leegistics. I have been part of many a carav'n escort, though none on this sheer scale afcurse." He rubs his hands together nervously. " I don't believe we have anywhere near enough 'ighters, if the Utanlôk fall upon us, we may be forced to make hard decisions on what we can and cant defend. While a good recon force can warn us before hand and cut down loses, but I think we should drill all the dwarves to fight at least a bit, so we can be more able to fight 'gainst the hordes."

"Look around Ranger, every dwarf still able to wield a weapon and even some of those who cannot are wielding weapons. Their effectiveness may be in question, but we've all bled and I'm sure we'll all bleed again against this enemy.

If you wish to lead the Rangers as a recon force, you have my blessing. But ensure that they get some rest as well.

Also, a thought occurs to me. I want you to scout the path ahead. We are far from home and go farther with every passing moment. Ensure there are no surprises lurking for us ahead."

(The accent works.)

-----
To Heirik.

Riegir nodded as Heirik spoke. "I am not a diplomat either, still we must at least try to gain some allies. While you speak to their people, try to impress upon them the threat that the Utanlôk are. I would not wish to see anyone lose their homes, even nomads."

With Heirik and Ardmir, seek out the Nomad Camps.

Skorri nods, Acourse Mi'lord He bows and moves on about his business.
Before finding the other rangers, he sets his mind to a more important matter, he begins to search for Vragnir the cartographer, and his assistant.

Heirik, Ardmir, Riegir

[2+1 Heiriks Survivalskill] you set out into the plains away from the camp and search quite some time for the nomads, but it seems they are hard to find. It is almost the second day when Heirik stops the group and mentions that he noticed the sound of battle ahead. Carefully creeping over a rise you witness an attack of a group of nomads on what looks like an orkish refugee camp...

Skorri

[4] As it turns out the famous Vragnir the Red, Dwarven Explorer and connoisseur of wines, got him self killed a few days ago when in a drunken stupor he stumbled over a wagon axle and broke his neck. His assistant Anni however is still alive. The poor girl however is completely in tears over the death of her famed mentor.

Ardmir was first to speak up, to advise his prince. "My lord, let's wait and see how the nomads fare. We have no business getting mixed up when its our people that we have to think about first and foremost."

Skorri frowns and pats the girl on the shoulder. "It'll be aight lass. Vognir was a great man, but we have work to do. He looks around. "Do you know where his maps are? I am looking for one of this area to give to help us scout,  and help our nobles make decent decisions.

Try to console Anni and inquire about Maps of the area.

Riegir shook his head.

"The orcs were once our friends, and we turned from them. Never again."

Riegir draws his blade and charges to assist the Orcs.

Heirik was watching the battle intently as the other dwarves crept over the rise, his eyes fixed on the moving nomads.

"This is a good opportunity, my Prince. We already have the Refuge's enmity; no use in staying neutral here. If we strike to aid the Nomads, we could gain favor from this land's nat..."

But before he could finish his point, his prince was charging towards the camp. The spy sighed, echoing the guard captain, and took his axe in both hands.

"Well, then." As he started charging, his voice rose into a battlecry. "KRAKA AEVI!"

Charge!

Shouts for Kraka Aevi are picked up by the Gate Guards as the thirteen of you charge down the rise towards the orc encampment. [Suprise Effect: 2] However the Tribesmen are either too well trained or simply are too absorbed in the fighting to be impressed by the dwarven charge. However among the Orkish Defenders several look up in relief and suprise. Suddenly their Leader, a rather large Orken Woman raises a huge cleaver over her head greeting the Battlecries of "KRAKA AEVI" with her own:

"Barduz bi Dwergaz! Dwergaz ankuman! Blôdêth aftawaron! Uruk rôpan endi Dwergaz-bardaz andwordian!"

While Heirik and Riegir pick the rough Orkish Cant as a Rallying Cry (The Axes of the Dwarves! The Dwarves Are Coming! The Bloodoath has been heeded! The Orks call and Dwarf-Axes answer!)
Ardmir merely charges ahead into the waiting spears of a group of Raiders. Gate Guards follow him and the line breaks up turning into several melees.

[Charge: 4+1(Brute Force) vs. 4] Ramming himself into the first raider he fells the fellow with ease his hammer smashing the fellows head in like a ripe melon. [5 vs. 3] the charge down the hill almost takes down half of the raiders you are facing, a dwarven gate guard being as terrible as a charging boar encased in steel once he has picked up the speed. Rallying around a big nomad with a two-handed scimitar the surviving raiders counter attack.

Riegir finds himself facing off with the leader. [5+1 vs. 6] dancing around each other the fellow attempts to use his superior height and his percieved advantage in strength to just hack through his defense. Using both hands he brings down the scimitar like a cleaver which the dwarf blocks with clenched teeth. [Brute Strength: 2+1 vs. 6] Both of them hold against each other trying to force the others sword away until suddenly an evil grin appears on the nomads face and he quickly jumps aside letting the prince run into nothing and then clipping him in the back with his sword [Pen: 6+1 vs. 4]. the Scimitar however glides off the finely woven chainmail and Riegir merely topples to the ground, [Agility: 4-1 vs 4-1] barely managing to roll around to stop another strike from the scimitar. [Brute Strength: 4+1 vs. 1] sweat appears on the fellows brow in  futile attempt to overpower the dwarf. With a last effort Riegir manages to force the sword away for a short second to roll behind the raider and hack at the back of his legs. [Dam: 3+2 vs. 5] However he merely hits him with the flat side of the blade knocking the man over. [Agi: 5 vs. 5] You botha re on your legs at the same time again and enter the next round.

Meanwhile Ardmir is facing a rather youngish spearman. [2+1 vs. 2] Weaving past his first clumsy stab, he brings down the hammer on the boy [Dam: 2+2 vs. 3] breaking his arm with the first swing.
[2+1 vs. 5-1] Screaming in agony the tribesman nonetheless manages to jump away from the next hit and instead swings his spear like a club down on Ardmir. [Pen: 3+1 vs. 2+2][Dam: 5 vs 4]
the head of the spear leaves a long and deep gash over his face. [4 vs. 1-1] Enraged his hammer takes the Boy by suprise [6+2 vs. 1 CRIT!] breaking his neck and leaving the smashed in head hanging in a weird angle from the body before the body collapses.

Riegir meanwhile is bleeding profusely from several nicks and cuts, as is the tribesmen for that matter, both seem evenly matched opponents [1+1 vs 4] but suddenly the Tribesman rams into Riegir felling him and changing the grip of his sword to bring it down on the dwarf. [Pen: 3+1 vs. 2] The well-crafted chainmail once again saves the Dwarven Princeling. [6+1+1(Skill+ Suprise) vs. 6] Just in time Ardmir attacks the Raider Leader from behind, who despite the dwarves quickness and element of surprise manages to turn around, but only to see the hammer decending on his face [Dam:4+2 vs. 4 CRIT]. The sound of snapping bones, heralds the huge tribesmans fall backwards. Heirik meanwhile doesnt recieve an enemy at all, being the last to charge the Gate Guards have dealt with all the Raiders with no losses of their own...

A Grim looking Orkish Woman approaches, behind her what seems like an armed impromptu militia.

Skorri

[Guile: 4-1] You manage to bring the Girl out of their constant misery only for a short while, however neough for her to tell you [3] That there are no maps left. Most have already either been taken by the Crownprince or where left behind in Kraka Aevi...
